Intel processors have half as many security vulnerabilities as AMD processors

Intel recently unveiled a study on the security of its processors. In the latter, the manufacturer admits that its Alder Lakes were victims of 16 flaws during 2021, and does not forget to compare itself to its competitor AMD, by noting 31 vulnerabilities. On the other hand, the trend is reversed on the GPU side.

On the sector of the processors, the war reigns between Intel and AMD. If the first is the historical leader, his rival has become over time an increasingly serious competitor, until scratching 25% of the market share in 2021. When the time comes to make his choice, the user will logically compare the power of each model. But there is another area worth focusing on: Security.

Indeed, it is not uncommon for processors to be victims of vulnerability. While most of them are quickly spotted and corrected by the brands’ technical teams, some slip through the cracks and can cause serious damage to the PC on which the CPU is installed. This is why Intel recently released a study assessing the security of its processors.

On the same subject: Intel — 5 generations of CPUs are affected by a catastrophic flaw that cannot be fixed!

Intel processors are much safer than AMD ones… according to Intel

We thus learn that the firm’s processors were victims of “only” 16 security breaches in 2021. Of these, 10 were detected internally, while the other six were reported by users. Obviously, Intel did not miss the opportunity to compare itself to its direct competitor. Thus, the manufacturer notes 31 vulnerabilities in AMD CPUsalmost twice as much.

However, the situation is quite different on the GPU side. Indeed, while Intel displays a total of 51 security flaws on these components, AMD only suffered 27. The overall calculation therefore favors the latter, with 58 vulnerabilities against 67 for Intel. In other words, the battle is far from over for the market leader. Especially since the study does not give figures for the Alder Lake, its 12th generation launched in 2021.
