Lenovo Legion Go, a ‘Steam Desk with Windows’

Lenovo is preparing to enter the market for handheld gaming machines with a Legion Go that would follow in the footsteps of Valve’s Steam Deck, but with the Windows 11 operating system, according to what they tell us as exclusive to Windows Central.

Lenovo is no stranger to the mobile game. It has marketed smart phones especially dedicated to games (Legion Phone) and a couple of years ago a Legion Play portable console appeared on the website of the Chinese firm in Germany. It was part of the showcase prepared for the Mobile World Congress 2021 and although we could see images of the device that illustrate this article, it was not finally announced. But everything indicates that the project never died.

Lenovo Legion Go, another one

The portable console segment has been extraordinarily lively and we could list a dozen very interesting models, from the Nintendo Switch, which must be included due to its mobility, to the Steam Deck, which has undoubtedly been the great shock. And we must add the Ally from ASUS and those that come from the Chinese specialists, ONE or AYA. No one wants to be left out of a ‘hot’ market and even Sony wants to return, although not in the way we expected. And Microsoft with a portable Xbox? We will see.

Lenovo Legion Go seems to follow in the footsteps of the aforementioned Legion Play, but leaving Android aside. According to the information, I would mount a screen of 8 inches and its engine would be based on the latest Ryzen processors for laptops, the Phoenix 7040. The manufacturer would bet on Windows 11 to achieve maximum compatibility. It would be a high-end model designed for AAA gameswhich would allow you to play in the cloud or run games from libraries like Steam’s.

If we think about the Legion Play, the screen would be surrounded by game controllers on the left and right sides, with two analog sticks, a D-Pad, X, Y, A and B buttons and other function buttons. At the bottom it would have a USB-C port, a headphone jack, and a built-in microphone that would presumably be used for bot chat.

In essence, similar to the Steam Deck, but with a slightly larger size and with Windows 11. There is no official confirmation of this development, nor price or availability. But point another handheld to hit your favorite games hard.
