Matías González, new Secretary General of Telecommunications

The Council of Ministers has approved this Tuesday the appointment of the former director of Vodafone Matias Gonzalez Martin as the new Secretary General of Telecommunications and Management of Audiovisual Communication Services, replacing Arturo Azcorra. González Martín joined the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation in 2021 as an advisor to the cabinet of the Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Infrastructure after more than a decade as director of Regulatory Affairs and Institutional Relations.

In its two years as an advisor, the Ministry has highlighted its collaboration in day-to-day regulatory and normative initiatives such as those related to the deployment of the Recovery Plan programs. In the text, the tasks of technical-economic analysis of regulation and taxation, the evolution of wholesale contracts or the evaluation of suppliers that the new general secretary has carried out in the private sector have also been highlighted.

Matías González Martín is a Telecommunications Engineer from the Higher Technical School of Telecommunications Engineers (ETSIT) of the Polytechnic University of Madrid and has spent most of his professional career in Vodafone Spainwhere for more than a decade he was director of Regulatory Affairs and Institutional Relations.

González will replace in the position Artuzo Azcorrawho came to the Ministry as Director General of Telecommunications two years ago. With the replacement at the head of the Secretary of State from Roberto Sánchez by María González last October, he went on to occupy the position of Secretary General, from which he ceased this Tuesday.
