Nokia renews its image and launches a repairable smartphone with HMD, which will produce 5G mobiles in Europe

Nokia has arrived at the MWC with several novelties. The first, one complete makeover of your imagewith which, among other things, it seeks to distance itself from the brand image it had when it manufactured smartphones with its brand, which now assemble HMD. Precisely, from the hand of this manufacturer has arrived the first smartphone designed so that any user can repair it at home and with ease: the Nokia G22.

In addition, HMD has announced that will transfer part of its production to Europe. This move will take place in several stages, and during the first, which has already started, HMD is taking charge of developing capabilities and processes to move the production of smartphones and 5G devices to the region. The company expects to complete this first transfer of production throughout 2023.

As for the Nokia G22, is the first Nokia smartphone designed so that, when necessary, it can be easily repaired. It has been released in collaboration with the global iFixit repair community, and will feature easily accessible repair guides. The same will also happen with terminal components that can be replaced, such as the screen, the charging port or the battery. This way you can easily change, and for an affordable price, your screen if it breaks, or your battery if it runs out.

Plus, it comes with a recycled plastic back cover that can be easily removed, two years of Android updates, three years of monthly security updates, and a three-year warranty. It will have 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage space, for a price of 149 euros.

Renewal of Nokia’s brand image and strategy

In addition to these novelties with Nokia-branded smartphones, at MWC Nokia has also presented a completely renewed brand image, as well as its strategy for the future, in which the networks are going to occupy a leading and main place. The company is already executing the first of the three phases into which it has divided the adoption of this strategy. This is the readjustment, which when completed will give way to a second in which the company will accelerate its progress and establish the phases for the scale phase, after having also expanded its customer base.

Nokia’s business strategy for the future is based on further acceleration, through six pillars: increasing market share with service providers, expanding the share of companies in its customer base, continuing to manage of its portfolio actively, taking advantage of opportunities beyond mobile devices to monetize Nokia IP, implementing new business models (for example, as a service), and developing ESG as a competitive advantage and becoming the trusted provider of choice in the industry.

For the development of these pillars, Nokia has four key objectives: develop future-ready talent, invest in long-term research (especially in areas such as 6G), digitize its operations and renew the brand. As for its technology strategy, it details how networks will have to evolve to meet the demands of the metaverse era.
