It seems that the metaverse has not started well, to the extent that not even Meta employees use Horizon Worldsthe flagship application, because it has many bugs and is presenting many problems.
According to The Verge, the situation within Meta and around Horizon Worlds and the Metaverse has become a bit unpleasant, since in a memo sent to employees on September 15, 2022, it was announced that the matter would be blocked. for the rest of the year to “ensure that we fix our quality gaps and performance issues before we open Horizon to more users.”
Horizon Worlds is a Metaverse app that allows people to build and interact in virtual worlds as legless avatars. Meta tried to sell the idea as if it were something revolutionary, but the reality is that, for about twenty years, there have been projects and virtual worlds that start from a similar base.
In other words, Horizon Worlds tries to sell itself as something revolutionary without really being itAlthough that hasn’t stopped Meta from spending billions a year to continue building its Metaverse, which has obviously included a VR headset of its own to make the most of it.
In the memo, which was sent by Vishal Shah, Vice President of Meta for the Metaverse, it was stated that “since its launch late last year, we have seen that the core thesis of Horizon Worlds, a synchronous social network where creators can build attractive worlds, is solid. But Currently the feedback from our creators, users, game testers, and many of us on the team is that the added weight of paper cuts, stability issues, and bugs make it too difficult for our community to experience the magic of Horizon.. Simply put, for an experience to become enjoyable and retentive, it must first be usable and well-designed.”
Among all the problems that Horizon Worlds faces is a seemingly poor graphic quality even compared to non-VR-oriented rivals like Fortnite, which is not that it excels on that front in order to support as many machines as possible.
Shah has exposed that one of the problems that Horizon Worlds is finding in its development is that few people within Meta use it. Seeing that the application is not liked within the company’s facilities, it does not take a genius to guess that the end users will not like it either (despite this, we have genres in video games such as immersive sim, which are not usually be best sellers even after receiving critical and public ratings).
Fifteen days later, on September 30, Shah sent another memorandum complaining that Meta employees still didn’t use Horizon Worlds enough, so he told them that “everyone in this organization should make it their mission to fall in love with Horizon Worlds. You can’t do that without using it. Get in there. Set up times to do it with your colleagues or friends, both on the internal builds and the public build so you can engage with our community.”
Meta’s VP again brought up issues such as the “onboarding experience being confusing and frustrating for users” and the team needing to “introduce new users to world-class worlds that ensure their first visit is a success.” He has also called for better collaboration between work teams to implement more and better changes in the future.
As we can see, it seems that the Metaverse and what is supposed to be its flagship application, Horizon Worlds, have not started off on the right foot, which is not difficult to imagine seeing one of the first promotional images. Meta is clear, or at least that is what it shows to the public, that it will continue breaking stone in the same direction, but when the current state of Horizon Worlds is far from satisfying even the employees themselves, it means that there is a good chance that there are things that are wrong.
