Over the years there is always some component of our PC that, for one reason or another, we notice that it begins to fall behind before the others. Don’t worry, it’s something normal, time doesn’t pass in vain and no matter how much we balance components there are always components that they end up accusing age before.
In my case, the component that became “obsolete” the fastest was the graphics card that my first personal PC built, a modest SiS with 1 MB of memory. It was a bit unlucky, since my parents bought this equipment just when the 3D fever was starting, and when graphics accelerators were not yet common, but they were starting to become more and more important.
In the end I ended up updating that component and I mounted an S3 Virge 3D with 2 MB of memory, which shortly after I expanded to 4 MB. It wasn’t a panacea, but the budget didn’t allow me more, and in the end it ended up giving me a lot of joy, in fact thanks to it I was able to play titles like Resident Evil 1 and 2, and also others like Final Fantasy VII.
In general terms, of all the computers I have had, The graphics card has been the component that I would have liked to update the most times before the rest, although there were an exception Which I think is worth mentioning. the GeForce 9600 GTsince in the PC that mounted said graphics card I felt the need to first update the processor, an Intel Core 2 Duo E8200 with two cores and two threads.
Said graphics card offered me a very long life, although I am clear that would have been outperformed by the GeForce GTX 970 if I hadn’t found a refurbished GeForce GTX 980 Ti for less than 300 euros. I changed it for her without hesitation, and the truth is that it was one of the best purchases I have made so far.
Focusing on the present, the truth is that there is only one component that I would like to change, the Ryzen 7 5800X. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a very powerful CPU, but I play at 1440p and on more than one occasion, especially when DLSS 2 is turned on, I’ve noticed that my GeForce RTX 3090 Ti could do a bit better with a more powerful CPU. If I updated it would be very clear, I would go for a Ryzen 7 7800X3D.
