Philips Evnia confirms that OLED monitors are also for gaming

Philips Evnia is the premium monitor brand from the Dutch manufacturer and has just expanded with two new models that offer the best imaging technologies that can be found in the segment. About its price… we better talk at the end.

You know there is at least four types of main display panels used in computer monitors. Those dedicated to games have been using TN panels in order to achieve maximum performance in refresh rate or response time. The problem is that its image quality is much lower than that of the rest and the current bet is on the VAs that are surely the most balanced in terms of features/price/performance.

Leaving aside the mini-LEDs of the future and with the IPS used for the global market and the work segment, we are left with the OLEDs, the newest and those that offer the best image quality. The latest generations have increased their performance for games and are undoubtedly the most advanced in the screen sector. And the most expensive.

A good sample comes to us from Philips with two models, 34M2C8600 and 42M2N8900who are committed to OLED panels and the most advanced imaging technologies.

The first mounts a curved panel of 34 inches, resolution of 3440 x 1440 pixels in 21:9 format, with a refresh rate of 175 Hz and a gray-to-gray response time of 0.1 ms. It must be said that it combines organic panels of 10-bit light-emitting diodes and technology Quantum Dot (QD) that provides the advantage of reducing burn-in than other types of OLED panels.

The monitor supports VESA Display HDR True Black 400, has 99.3% coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut and a Delta E of less than 2. Its base supports height adjustment and in addition to HDMI and Display Port, it has with a USB Type-C, a USB Port Hub and a KVM switch. There is no lack of the brand’s RGB lighting system, Ambiglow, for customization.

The second model increases size and resolution up to 42 inches and 4K. It also mounts an OLED panel, but in this case without Quantum Dot technology. Its response time is minimal, 0.1 ms, and its 138 Hz refresh rate with support for Adaptive Sync is not bad for 4K.

It has a maximum brightness of 450 nits, a 1,500,000:1 contrast ratio, HDR10 support, and great support for color palettes, 99% DCI-P3 or 94% Adobe RGB, in addition to the connectivity of the previous model, HDMI 2.1 , Display Port 1.4, USB Type-C, the port hub and the Ambiglow lighting system.

We saved the least good for last. These Philips Evnia, without reaching the performance of dedicated monitors for games, allow you to play at a very good level and with an image quality that is presumed to be outstanding. But OLED panels are expensive and this translates into high sales prices, £1,149 and £1,499 respectively for the two models. They should be available shortly on the European retail channel.
