Obviously we have been wondering when, how and how much, but its existence was taken for granted.
As a general rule, the reviews on the models initially launched they usually reach the market around the middle of the life cycle of the current generation, and the most advanced version, which this time will be the PlayStation 5 Pro, is usually considered the intermediate step between the current and the future, although it is true that it usually has more of the first than the second. However, everything indicates that this time the debut of the PlayStation 5 Slim will not mark the halfway point of this generation, which both Sony and Microsoft intend to squeeze for a few more years.
On the other hand, as you well know by now Microsoft faces multiple and very complex processes in relation to its intentions to acquire Activision Blizzard King, and the development thereof is causing a lot of information, which in other circumstances would have been kept hidden, is coming to light when presented to the various regulators, as well as in the context judicial. Thus, it is expected that this PlayStation 5 Slim supposes, in some way, a relay for the digital version of PS5, although both models will coexist in the market. And it is that a smaller model may be what many users are waiting for, since the size of the two PlayStation 5 models currently available on the market is something to take into account when purchasing. I have known more than one case, in my immediate environment, in which the size of the PS5 has been a problem.
It has also been rumored that along with the PlayStation 5 Slim Sony will also launch an external optical disc reader which, of course, will allow the console to use games purchased on physical support. The bad news in this regard, yes, is that the same rumors suggest that the optical drive will not be compatible with the digital PS5.
