If you follow video game news, you probably know that Sony is about to launch a brand new Playstation Plus, born from the merger between the current PS Plus and Playstation Now, the manufacturer’s cloud gaming service. This Playstation Plus 2.0 will be available from June 22, 2022 in France, and users will be able to choose between three different formulaswith prices between €8.99/month and €16.99/month.

Via the Premium formula (the most expensive), players will be able to enjoy many advantages such as access to 400 PS4 and PS5 games for local download as well as nearly 340 backward compatibility games from the Playstation, PS2 and PS3 catalogs. While we wait for this PS Plus revamp to arrive, Sony is making major changes. And some are not going to appeal to players.

Sony empties the PS Now catalog before the arrival of the new PS Plus

Indeed, Reddit user Cobra_Bite noticed that a number of games on PS Now show availability dates that expire in May 2022, just a month before the launch of the new Playstation Plus. This implies that, barring any last-minute surprises, these titles will no longer be available through the revamped PS Plus. The full list of affected games can be found on Reddit, but be aware that the most notable games are from two cult sagas in particular, namely Metal Gear Solid and Sonic. Here are the most important titles that will disappear from the PS Now catalogue:

  • Akiba’s Beat and Akiba’s Trip
  • Castlevania: Lord of Shadows
  • Metal Gear Rising
  • Metal Gear Solid 4
  • Metal Gear Solid 4 and Ground Zeroes
  • Silent Hill HD Collection
  • sonic forces
  • Sonic Generations
  • sonic mania
  • Sonic Unleashed
  • Sonic Team Racing
  • Valkyria Chronicles Remastered
  • Virtua Fighter V
  • Yakuza 4 and 5

In total, note that 11 Sonic-themed games go by the wayside… If you are a fan of the blue hedgehog, you will have to do without all the major episodes of the saga released since Sonic Unleashed in 2008. As a reminder, Playstation Premium subscribers will be able to try future PS5 games for a minimum of two hours. Indeed, Sony has changed its policy to force developers to create playable demos, under certain conditions, however.
