NFTs are rapidly taking over the landscape, whether we like them or not. Non-fungible tokens are the subject of growing interest from mainstream platforms: after Twitter and its hexagonal profile pictures, it’s Reddit’s turn to think about the issue.
A few days ago, Twitter announced that subscribers to its Blue service will be able to use an NFT as an avatar of their profile. An image which for the occasion will be hexagonal to better distinguish it from classic avatars. This novelty, which will only be offered to iOS users at first, will however be visible to everyone, including on Android and on the web.
An experiment in progress at Reddit
If Twitter has developed this novelty, it is because there was a strong demand, assures the company (too bad that the social network still does not want to develop a system allowing to correct tweets, because there too there has demand…). Nevertheless, the announcement caused a great controversy, as with everything related to NFTs. Despite everything, these tokens which guarantee the ownership of a digital good thanks to the blockchain are starting to spread everywhere.

Reddit is currently testing a feature similar to Twitter’s, which would allow an NFT to be used as a profile picture. Details are still pretty thin, but Reddit has confirmed that experiments have started in this direction, but that they are not yet offered for the general public.
