Loki

We recall that Loki was thought of as a multi-season show from the start: the post-credits scene of the last episode of season 1 already announced the sequel. So far, it’s the only Marvel Studios series to have had more than one season.

Who will be in the cast of season 2 of Loki?

All the protagonists of the first season will be back in this season 2, announced Kevin Feige, the big boss of Marvel Studios. Mobius, Sophia Di Martino in Sylvie or Gugu Mbatha-Raw in Ravonna. We also know that Rafael Casal will enter the casting in a role that is still unknown.

Loki

Stay the case of Jonathan Majors, which Marvel has still not decided. The actor embodies Kang, the new great villain of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the one who must succeed Thanos. Introduced in the first season of Loki, the character should logically appear in this season 2. However, Jonathan Majors is accused of assault and domestic violence and Marvel seems to be keeping him away from the promo. His case is complicated and the studio has not yet recast the role, certainly waiting to see how things evolve. Will Kang be in season 2? Will not be ?

Loki

As a reminder, at the end of the last episode (we spoilers, beware), Loki and Sylvie meet the One who Remains, who is none other than one of the many versions of Kang in the multiverse and incidentally the creator of TVA. After a tough fight, the antagonist is eliminated and the continuity of time is jeopardized. When Loki returns to TVA HQ, he notices that a huge statue of Kang sits in the officesa sign that if the One who Remains is no longer, the other variants are still present.

Loki

Marvel Cinematic Universe obliges, all creations stamped Marvel Studios are connected. Kang the Conqueror (an alternate version) appeared in the movie Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania. Attention we will spoiler it in the next paragraph, so jump to the next one if you still haven’t seen the movie:

This Kang gets eliminated by Scott Lang and his team, but the first post-credits scene tells us that all the other variants are plotting together to rule the multiverse. The second shows us Loki and Mr. Mobius investigating another version of the villain: Victor Timely.

kang

We can suppose that Kang/Timely will serve as the antagonist for this season 2. According to insider Alex Perez, the latter will be a pretext to make Loki and his companions travel back in time on multiple occasions. The latter even speaks of an episode taking place during theColumbian Exposition of 1893.

As a reminder, Kang is the final big boss of phase 5 of the MCU, which will culminate in the next two Avengers films. But the legal concerns of actor Jonathan Majors come to stop this well-oiled plan. Will Kang still be the focus? Will he even be present in this season 2 of Loki? Will Marvel choose to put the character in the background or will he simply be recast? Reply soon.

What Marvel movies do you need to have seen to fully understand Loki?

Loki may evolve in parallel with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but you still need to have some keys to fully understand everything. No need to have seen the twenty films that make up the universe, but some are essential.

The Loki we follow in the series is not the “real” Loki, but a variant. He appears in Avengers Endgame, as Tony Stark, Scott Lang, and Bruce Banner attempt to retrieve the Space Stone by traveling back in time to the Battle of New York in 2012 (The Avengers). Loki takes advantage of the chaos to flee but is quickly caught up by TVA. This is where the first season begins.

Viewings of the first Thor (2011) as well as the Avengers (2012) are therefore mandatory to understand everything. If watching Thor 2 (2013) and 3 (2017) isn’t necessary (since it’s not the “same” character), it’s still useful to better understand the psyche of the god of mischief. On the other hand, reviewing the Avengers Infinity War / Endgame diptych is essential to grasp the stakes of the series and where its hero really comes from.

Of course, we will continue to keep this file updated according to new information about Loki season 2.
