Resident Evil 4 Remake is getting skyrocketed for the worst possible reasons

The remake of Resident Evil 4 presents itself as an excellent reissue of the cult 2005 game. Despite everything, the absence of certain elements earned it an outpouring of hatred and review bombing from the most extreme fans.

The remake of Resident Evil 4, Capcom’s mythical title released in 2005 on GameCube, has landed on our consoles and PC since March 24, 2023. In our columns, we have praised the quality of this adaptation, which has kept the spirit and atmosphere of the original while modernizing certain key points (such as gameplay, level-design or even the story).

Obviously, the formula is not perfect and there are a few flaws to point out, like Ashley’s behavior, always so quick to be captured every 30 seconds, or side quests with questionable interest from a playful point of view.

Resident Evil 4 plummeted for sickening reasons

But for some time, Resident Evil 4 Remake has been the target of rather dishonest reviews and review bombing on Metacritic and Steam. To sum up, the “trolls” attack these specific points:

  • Lily Gao’s acting as Ada Wong
  • The absence of sexist references and questionable jokes from Leon, the main protagonist
  • Resident Evil 4 Remake’s “Woke” Soundtrack

It should be noted that the very violent attacks against Lily Gao have pushed the actress to delete a large majority of her Instagram profile. A distressing observation, when it is the first interpreter of Asian origin to embody Ada in the original version of a Resident Evil game.

The community defends the actress from Ada

On networks, many hateful comments violently criticize his performance, yet faithful to the character (namely, a bit sarcastic, haughty and sure of herself). “You ruined the remake”, “your dubbing is so bad I feel like I wasted my money”, here is a sample of the sweet words published against the actress.

Fortunately, these haters are just a vocal minority and many players came to the defense of the actress, who already played Ada in the film Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City in 2021.”What happens with Ada’s voice actress in Resident Evil 4 (2023) is more than unacceptable. Everyone has opinions based on their own experience, but going on social media to offend them is sickening and deplorable,” writes a user.

After achieving an astonishing 4.5/10 on Metacritic thanks to the evil haters campaign, Resident Evil 4 user score now shows an acceptable rating (7/10) thanks to player and community support.
