Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4: release date, price, technical sheet, all the info

The king of foldable smartphones is about to pass his crown. Samsung will soon unveil the Galaxy Fold 4, the great successor to the Fold 3. Here’s everything you need to know about its specs, release date and price.

Foldable screens have created a separate product category these days: smartphones that can unfold to become a tablet. But let’s give back to Caesar what belongs to Caesar: the first to have really believed in it, and who has supported this new revolution since its conception, is Samsung. With the Galaxy Z Foldhe dared to push this new format of a particular kind on the market, and never gave it up despite a difficult start. The Galaxy Z Fold 4, which should soon be formalizedwill be the last representative.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 release date

It’s customary for Samsung to organize its biggest conference dedicated to mobile devices at the beginning of August. This year 2022 will be no different, since the Samsung Unpacked will take place on August 10, and will be visible live on the brand’s social networks. If the new Galaxy S will of course be included, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is already one of the most anticipated devices.

According to Jon Prosser, a recognized leaker in the industry, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 will be directly available for pre-order at the end of the presentation. It will be officially released on August 26, 2022.along with the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy Z Flip 3. We don’t yet know what will happen to Samsung’s trade-in program or pre-order bonuses.

How much will the Galaxy Z Fold 4 cost?

It’s undeniable: the Galaxy Z Fold are Samsung’s most premium products today. Also, their price naturally follows the same progression, and the technology is not yet common enough for these prices to drop drastically in the months to come. According to OnLeaks, again a highly reputable leaker, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 will be sold 1799 euros in the 256 GB version and 1919 euros in the 512 GB version.

To put this information into context, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 was previously released at a price of 1799 euros. His successor therefore does not cause no price increase, which is almost amazing. In the context of the current shortage, inflation and the rise in value of the dollar against the euro, one would have expected prices to rise. It would ultimately be nothing!

What design will the Galaxy Z Fold 4 have?

If the Galaxy Z Flip 4 will not revolutionize its design, the same cannot be said of the Galaxy Z Fold 4. This product has always had a particular feature that makes it difficult to use for some people: once closed, the side “ smartphone” is very narrow and elongated. However, for some hands, typing on such a cramped format can be a huge problem.

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 would have finally listened to the complaints of these users. The foldable smartphone would be slightly lower and slightly wider, so as to have a more comfortable classic phone experience. It would not go so far as to mimic a classic smartphone, as its competitors can do today, but would improve its grip despite everything. The external screen would thus have a 23:9 ratio, compared to 24.5:9 on the Fold 3, and the internal screen would be 6:5 compared to 5:4.

The new foldable smartphone should also benefit from a new hinge that will allow the fold to be much less visible compared to previous models. However, the spacing between the two parts of the phone once folded should still be as marked, despite the fact that its competitors have managed to completely erase this aspect.

The two glasses on the front and back of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 should be more resistant thanks to the use of a new Gorilla Glass Victus+ coating. Inside, we should count on a new type of ultra-thin “Super UTG” glass. Compatibility with the S Pen would still be relevant.

Galaxy Z Fold 4 spec sheet

All of the brand’s folding devices would upgrade to Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, the new premium generation from the number 1 Android vendor. Excellent news when you know the heating problems that the classic Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 can encounter. The inclusion of this new chip should always offer more power to the device.

On the battery side, unfortunately no improvement: a capacity of 4400 mAh should still be used here, with fast charging at 25W that would charge the smartphone to 50% in half an hour. Samsung’s allergy to ultra-fast charging therefore continues to exist here, even if this should ensure its smartphones have a better longevity.

Galaxy Z Fold 4 camera

Again, this is a point on which the Galaxy Z Fold 4 should see great improvements. As a reminder, the Fold 3’s camera was somewhat disappointing since, although it was of good quality, it did not take advantage of the photo unit of the S range of its time.

On the Galaxy Z Fold 4, rumor has it that we find a 50 megapixel main sensor, against 12 megapixels on the previous model. He would also benefit from3x optical zoom, against x2 on the previous generation, as well as an ultra wide angle of 12 megapixels too. Thus, we would still not be at the level of the Galaxy S22 Ultra and its 108 megapixel sensor, but the quality would be much higher.

Above all, the camera under the interior screen could see a massive improvement. According to some rumors, a new sensor of 16 megapixels would have been integrated, against 4 megapixels on the Galaxy Z Fold 3 currently, which would no longer encounter the same problems of blur and noise. However, Ice Universe indicates that the 4 megapixel sensor would be back this yearwhich would be a bit of a disappointment.

Name change for the Galaxy Z Fold 4?

Since everyone is already saying “Fold 4” and not “Z Fold 4”, why not ditch this Z? For many months, it was rumored that Samsung had ditched the “Z” to just keep the Fold and Flip monikers. It would seem that the decision was even more confirmed because of the current context: the Russian government using the Z as a distinctive mark for its invasion of Ukraine, the Korean manufacturer would have purely and simply removed the letter from its range. She will not be missed.
