User ofAndroid and more particularly Google appsyou are despite yourself accustomed to the firm launching a service before deleting it. Google+, Picasa, Inbox, Hangouts…They even have their own cemetery. The company is starting again today, but targeting a specific functionality after updating the application that offers it. You may have forgotten it: the photo-sphere. The option launched in 2012 still made it possible to take 360° shots before the mobile takes care of putting everything together for an immersive result.

On the community social network Reddit, user New-Literature-1023 notes that it is no longer possible to create them on his Pixel 8. Others confirm the observation on the Pixel 8 Pro as well. In question, update 9.1 of theGoogle Camera app, the camera installed by default on mobile phones. Many people are expressing their disappointment, like BlackShadow2804: “It annoys me so much, it’s my favorite photo feature. She captures places like no other.”

Google removes this photo option from Pixel 8 and 8 Pro despite its 10 years of existence

The photo-spheres, once submitted to Google and approved, could even be found on Google Maps, available to everyone. There has been no announcement on this subject, so we do not know if they will remain or if Google will delete them for lack of maintaining the system to view them for example. According to some testimonies, moving to version 9.1 of the Google Camera app does not change anything on other Pixels like the Pixel 7 or Pixel 7 Pro. The photo-sphere option remains.

At any rate, Google did not explain this deletion and the company may not do so. It is assumed that she studied the usage statistics and found that the functionality was too little used to justify its maintenance. On the other hand, if this is the case, it is difficult to understand why only the latest Pixel smartphones are affected and not the previous ones. Perhaps the end of the photo-sphere option will come to the various models at a later date.
