Send a WhatsApp to a contact that is not in the phonebook
At some point you have dealt with a situation similar to this. You must contact a person by WhatsApp, but they are not among your contacts. It is just a message or a conversation of just a few lines. Then you will no longer contact that person.
That forces us to put that contact on the agenda, and let’s be honest, sometimes with very colorful and imaginative names as a result of the moment in which we find ourselves.
There are times that we delete that contact immediately, once the task is done. And others, it remains until one day, by chance, we discover that it is still there or we have to ask ourselves the following question: Who is this contact with this name that does not ring a bell but is on the agenda?
WhatsApp, still to improve
And it is that WhatsApp, the most used instant messaging tool in the world, has many virtues, but also many deficiencies. Let’s be patient, because little by little, it is implementing new utilities and it seems that it is listening to the 2 billion people who use it daily.
Perhaps this would be easier if WhatsApp worked, in this sense, like iMessage. If we had the possibility of entering a number that was not in our phonebook and we could see, in a simple way, with a simple blue or green color, if you have WhatsApp or not, in the first instance, and if we could send you the message without having it in the schedule, secondly.
But hey, WhatsApp is not at the top for being the best instant messaging application, but rather the easiest to use and when it says to add things, they are always small and in the right amount. Which makes it the most understandable among all ages, from children to very old people.
Using the WhatsApp API, what is that?
Tranquillity. Sending a WhatsApp to a contact that is not in the agenda is possible. Only we must use the WhatsApp API. What are we talking about?.
In simple words, we can communicate with the WhatsApp app without running the WhatsApp app. And we can give you the order to contact someone externally without using the app.
In this case we do it with its API (in Spanish, its Application Programming Interface). We will do it through a web browsereither from a mobile device or from a computer.

Simply enter the following in the web browser: https://api.whatsapp.com/send?phone=”number”where “number” will be the number mobile to which we want to send the message and we must add the country prefix, without the +.
If the number to which we want to send the message is from a Spanish operator, example 123456789, we must put, in this case, the prefix of Spain: https://api.whatsapp.com/send?phone=3. 4123456789.
What do we get with this? Well, WhatsApp Web opens in the browser and takes us to a private chat with that number that we have specified.

Moreover, in this simple way we will instantly discover if that number has WhatsApp installed or not. If not, you will tell us immediately. This saves us wasting time with the tedious task of going to the phonebook, adding the contact and the number, leaving the phonebook, going to WhatsApp, looking for the added contact and discovering that there is no possibility of communicating with him because he does not have WhatsApp installed.
Sending via Whatsapp
Whether we are on a mobile device or on a computer, if we have the WhatsApp app installed, from the web it will ask us for permission to open the WhatsApp app to open the conversation window with the indicated number.
Once there, we will have our conversation window with the indicated number and we will be able to contact him as if it were one of our contacts.
You should take into account that the messages you send are associated with your account, the other person will know who sent the message if they have you in their contacts or, at least, they will have your phone and all the information that you have allowed people who are not your contacts to see in your WhatsApp settings (status, profile picture, information…).

Anyone who has read my previous articles already knows the recommendation I always make to this type of app that claims to do something for free. I do not recommend third party applications. Among other things because free is never nothing. Some kind of consideration will be requested, and that is always information or enduring huge publicity.
And if, as we have seen, we can send a WhatsApp to a contact that is not in the phonebook from the WhatsApp API itself without much complicationit is not worth looking for subterfuges.
