Soonho Ahn abandons the Apple Car project and goes to Volkswagen

When it seemed that Apple was once again reactivating its ambitious project of manufacturing its first Apple car, a new setback appears in Cupertino. One of the main heads of the project, Soonho Ahn, leaves the company to join Volkswagen.

Ahn was the director of battery development for the Apple Car project, and today his departure from the company was made public to join the design and manufacture of the German firm’s range of electric cars. Volkswagen.

Soonho ahn, apart from having an unpronounceable name, until now he was the director of development of the batteries of the next Apple Car. The fact is that now it has been known that he leaves his office in Apple Park, and takes the suitcases to move to Germany. There, a new job awaits you at the Volkswagen headquarters.

The truth is that the real reason is unknown, but the fact is that Ahn has not lasted long in his position integrated in the Apple car project. In 2018 he came to Apple Park from the top management of Samsung. And he took over the global direction of battery development for the Apple Car.

The Volkswagen project is much more “real”

Two may be the reasons that have made Ahn decide to leave warm California for the cold of Germany. The first, obviously the economic one. But it would be very strange, since surely his payroll at Apple would not be negligible. Perhaps the real reason is that he was not very convinced of the Titan project of Apple, and on the other hand, the development of electric cars is much more feasible and real in a company that already manufactures cars, such as Volkswagen.

Volkswagen, on the other hand, has an ambitious project to build six battery factories for electric cars in Europe by the end of this decade. The idea of the Germans is to surpass Tesla as the world leader in electric vehicles. Along with Ahn, the Bavarian factory has also recruited solid-state cell expert Jörg Hoffmann from BMW. Without a doubt, a much more solid and real project than perhaps the one presented by Apple with its idea of making an electric vehicle.
