Star Labs Byte, a mini PC with Linux and Ryzen 7 5800U

The Star Labs Byte is a very curious mini PC, since it maintains a design that we can consider classic within the sector, but at the same time it is a device that seeks to differentiate itself from the rest by using Linux as its operating system. It will be available from June this year, but its specifications are already known, and it can be pre-purchased with a 5% discount on its final price, which will be 827.64 euros, VAT included.

For that money, the Star Labs Byte includes a Ryzen 7 5800U APU with an 8-core, 16-thread CPU running at up to 4.4GHz, a Radeon RX Vega 8 GPU, supports up to 64GB of RAM, supports SSD drives in M.2 PCIE format and also in 2.5-inch format (SATA), integrates Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1 connection, and comes equipped with a wide range of connectors:

  • 1x USB Type-C.
  • 2x USB 3.0 Type-A.
  • 2 x USB 2.0 Type-A.
  • 1 x 3.5mm jack.
  • 1xRJ45Ethernet.
  • 2x HDMI 2.0.

The Star Labs Byte also includes a micro SD card slot, it is very compact in size, as we anticipated, includes a 240GB SSD in its base version, in addition to 8GB of 3200MHz DDR4 memory and comes mounted on a high quality aluminum chassis. Its measurements are 12.5 cm wide, 5 cm high and 11.1 cm deep.

We can easily configure it, and before buying it we have the possibility to choose which operating system we want it to come configured with. Among the options offered by Star Labs Byte are Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS, Ubuntu, Kubuntu, or Ubuntu MATE; elementary OS 6.1 “Jólnir” Pantheon; Linux Mint 20.3 “Uma” Cinnamon, MATE or Xfce; Manjaro 21.0 “Ornara” Xfce, KDE Plasma or GNOME; MX Linux 21.1 “Wildflower” Xfce, KDE Plasma or Fluxbox and Zorin OS 16.1 Core or Pro
