Star Wars may not be quite done with the Skywalker saga

While we thought we had drawn a line under the Skywalker saga, Lucasfilm was working on a new trilogy located after Star Wars 9.

It has now been more than two years since viewers have discovered a new opus in the saga. Star Wars on the big screen. After the latest, rather contested trilogy, Lucasfilm is taking a well-deserved break from filmmaking. If the universe continues to develop on Disney +, the future in dark rooms is more than uncertain. Rogue Squadron, developed and directed by Patty Jenkins was to be the next Star Wars feature film, but creative differences have delayed its production. Taika Waititi is also announced to be directing a film from the universe, but again things are dragging on.

These new projects must deviate from the main saga to definitively draw a line under the adventures of the Skywalkers. Well, not quite according to former Vanity Fair journalist Joanna Robinson. Podcast guest The Ringer Verse, she shared a rumor circulating in Hollywood. According to her, Lucasfilm is actively developing a new trilogy around a revamped Jedi order. Films that would immerse us in this way some time after the fall of the First Order and Rey’s victory over Palpatine.

If this information is confirmed, we can imagine that Lucasfilm will want to tell the story of Rey after the disappearance of the last Jedi and his desire to form a new generation. On the side of the antagonists, on the other hand, it is very difficult to know who will take over. Otherwise, we are still without news of the High Republic trilogy by Rian Johnson. After The Last Jedi, the director was to return to directing three films set 200 years before the events of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.

“You can fill an entire stadium with ideas that Lucasfilm cares about”

After the conclusion of this narrative arc, Disney and Lucasfilm no longer seem to know which end to take the saga. On Disney+, the various series take an interest in the past by plunging us between the fall of the Empire and the birth of the First Order. This is the case of The Mandalorianwhich officially kicked off the ball for the Star Wars series on Disney+, but also The Boba Fett Book , which ended with a bang last Wednesday. For the future, things will get more complicated since Obi-Wan Kenobi will plunge us somewhere between the third and the fourth installment of the franchise. Same story for Andorwhich will focus on the fate of Cassian who appeared in RogueOne in 2016.

Joanna Robinson also confides that the firm has no shortage of ideas as to what happens next. The problem: they don’t always materialize. “You can fill an entire stadium with ideas that Lucasfilm is interested in and never actually realize.” For the moment, we will therefore have to be content with the series on Disney+, many of which will be available in this year 2022. The next meeting is set for next May 25 with Obi-Wan Kenobi. If we are still waiting for the first images, we already know that the plot will transport us to Tatooine, where the former Jedi lives reclusive after his fight against Anakin.
