Starlink: you can now take your antenna wherever you want, but it’s not free

Starlink now offers a new one that allows you to change the location of your antenna. For 25 dollars per month, American users can therefore use their connection several kilometers from home, or even in another country, without having to change the address of their subscription. However, some restrictions should be taken into account.

In barely a year, Starlink has grown its service exponentially and its network now covers much of North America. Also, since its operation is based on an antenna, the theory would be that the latter can be used wherever satellites are in service. After all, SpaceX is currently testing its connection within aircraft in order to benefit from in-flight WiFi. All that was missing was a suitable offer, and it is now done.

For the modest sum of 25 dollars per month, Starlink therefore offers subscribers who wish to take advantage of their antenna elsewhere than at home. Whether it is to go to your neighbor or to the other side of the country, there is no need to modify the address of your subscription, the Internet connection will always be functional. Nevertheless, there are some restrictions. First, it is not yet possible to move its antenna to another continent.

On the other hand, it is possible to take it with you to another country. If so, the connection will be active for two months. After this period, the user will have to modify his residence address. Starlink does not specify the maximum travel time for a user who remains in his country, although the operation remains the same.

Moreover, it is not possible to use Starlink in motion, under penalty of voiding the guarantee. The service adds that it is working on a solution to soon offer this functionality. Finally, Starlink warns that the flow may be less good, since the firm favors the fixed addresses of users.

Nevertheless, the feedback from users seems rather positive. On Twitter, Youtubeur Dave Lee shared a photo of his installation while he was outdoors in his motorhome. It then enjoyed a speed of 145 Mb/s. Starlink service portability could therefore appeal to a large number of mobile users, putting even more pressure on traditional operators.
