DiskStation DS723+ is the new NAS that Synology has developed to facilitate the implementation of centralized storage systems in home offices and small businesses and for uses as an edge node in distributed deployments.
Don’t be confused by its small size because this model has appreciable virtues and all the technology that the manufacturer includes in larger NAS. As Iván Gento, Marketing Executive Iberia & Africa of Synology, says in his presentation: “This new drive offers impressive performance and capacity for its extremely compact size, which fits the moderate storage needs of those who don’t want to compromise on the convenience of centralized storage and the ability to scale in the future”.
DiskStation DS723+, small, but competent
With two storage bays It is the smallest of the manufacturer’s ‘Plus’ series, but as data grows it can be scaled up to seven with the DX517 expansion unit. Like the rest of its models, it stands out for its balance between features, capacity and price, and its versatility of use in various scenarios. It supports hot-swappable 3.5″ or 2.5″ SATA hard drives and M.2 2280 solid-state drives.
This model mounts an AMD Ryzen R1600 processor with a hardware encryption engine (AES-NI). Synology includes 2 Gbytes of DDR4 RAM memory expandable up to 32 Gbytes, in addition to extensive connectivity with two 1 GbE Ethernet ports, USB and slots to install M.2 SSDs that act as data cache.
Its high performance, with sequential data transfers in read/write up to 471/225MB/s. This level of performance can be increased by using an additional 10GbE network connection via the additional PCIe slot and adding the aforementioned NVMe SSDs, which enable caching.
As with all of its NAS, Synology includes the free DiskStationManager (DSM), one of the best operating systems for NAS on the market, accompanied by a good number of applications for all kinds of tasks. In addition, fully integrated with the hardware and system, the manufacturer offers the cloud solution suiteSynology C2. It is designed to meet the storage, backup, data protection, file sharing, and password management needs of any type of user or business.
