the Bixby Text Call feature will answer calls by mimicking your voice

We thought for a time that Samsung would abandon Bixby, the intelligent assistant that is often compared to Google Assistant, Siri and other Alexa. This is not the case, since the South Korean giant has just announced in the press that it has added eight new scenarios of use, and above all, a new voice cloning feature.

OneUI 5.1 brings its share of new features. Bixby Text Call, for example, is one of the coolest tools in the software overlay update, even though it’s still only enabled for the Korean language. It allows you to answer calls through a text chat, without speaking. Your messages are read aloud to your interlocutor. From an interesting idea, Samsung makes a revolutionary application. By the grace of artificial intelligence, it will be possible to clone your voice and use it in Bixby Text Call.

The company elaborates: “users can customize Bixby voice Text Call using Bixby Custom Voice Creator. They will first need to record different phrases for Bixby to analyze and create a copy of their AI-generated voice and intonation “. This function is currently only available in Korean, but will eventually be available in our regions.

Samsung wants to create your voice clone and reuse it in other apps

As we know, artificial intelligence contributes every day a little more to blur the border between reality and fiction. Scammers use deepfakes to steal sensitive data, Amazon wants you to talk to a deceased loved one by teaching Alexa to imitate voices… Everything seems to indicate that AI will always occupy more space in our daily lives, with all the advantages and the risks of scam that entails.

The Bixby update will roll out in the coming month, but only English-speaking users will be able to take full advantage of it. Other improvements include a better voice detection and ensure a smoother transition between eight new usage scenariosincluding weather, messages, Samsung Health, calendar, and music.
