the saga revives in the least expected place

Star Wars Jedi Survivor It will be the umpteenth game based on the franchise created by George Lucas 46 years ago now and it seems that, finally, Those responsible find the light after years of darkness when it comes to telling us credible adventures around characters that have marked generations around the world. But also, that resurrection has come from the hand of someone that nobody expected.

Hard times for the rebellion

Although now everyone thinks that the future of Star Wars in video games it is well focused thanks to several projects scattered by different studios –Ubisoft, Quantic Dream, etc.– that seem to look spectacular, in reality this resurgence of titles based on the galactic franchise has arrived thanks to a success that no one expected from the least indicated actor of all: Electronic Arts.

It was the Americans who – we must admit it – had the good sense to trust the geniuses of Respawn Entertainment to get down to work with Jedi Fallen Order and they turned what seemed like another title, without substance, into another much deeper and capable of starting a new plot line within a period as chaotic as the one between the end of Episode III and the beginning of Episode IV, the one of Star Wars original.

And why do we say that no one expected Electronic Arts to become the savior of Star Wars as a single-player video game franchise, with a narrative-driven campaign and plot? Because the background did not look good.

No games just with campaign

Electronic Arts is the company that signed the screenwriter of the UnchartedAmy Hennig, to develop a project that looked great as it was Star Wars 1313that was presented to great fanfare at E3 in Los Angeles and that from one day to the next he stopped starring in the news and, later, much later, they already told us that they would not continue with him. That they canceled it. And that showed a Boba Fett in top form, before the attack perpetrated by Disney + in the form of a series that has reduced him to the height of bitumen.

The worst of that cancellation of Star Wars 1313 the thing is he wanted to explain himself in the worst way imaginable, Electronic Arts arguing that it was no longer worth developing games singleplayer, campaign only and somehow not having consistent multiplayer. In this way, it seemed that they were erased from a market as prolific and full of millions of sales every year as are, for example, the exclusives of Sony: Uncharted, Horizon, god of war, spider-man and a long list of cases that made EA wrong.

Luckily it seems that they changed their minds and, above all, they entrusted the project to Respawn Entertainmentthe parents of titanfall who do seem to know the potential of these singleplayer that sweep sales. AND Star Wars Jedi Survivor, which will go on sale on April 28, will be another of those that mark the path of the franchise in the world of video games, once again leaving Electronic Arts in a bad place. Or not anymore?
