The Sony Q-Lite points to November of this year

As the days go by, we receive more and more signs that point to the eThe Q-Lite project, from Sony, is a reality that will materialize sooner rather than later, and that until just over a week ago it seems that the Japanese multinational had managed to keep its plans a secret. However, if the deadlines that we have “known” today are confirmed (in quotes because we are talking about rumors and leaks, so we cannot take anything for sure), the official announcement should not be too far away in time.

In case you don’t know what I’m talking about, a week ago we learned that Sony was preparing new hardware that, according to signs, did not seem to be the expected PlayStation 5 Pro, but a portable device, with which the company would return to a market that it abandoned. in 2019. Two currents were quickly generated: one that pointed to a device with hardware capable of running games locally, and another that pointed in the direction of the cloud, and also its integration with PlayStation 5 through Remote Play. The name PlayStation Vita 2 has been on everyone’s lips ever since, but leaks claim that the name of the project is Q-Lite.

And why have I said before that we could be on dates for the official announcement? Well, because, as we can read in Wccftech, Sony targets November for Q-Lite launchwhich could also be accompanied by other devices, such as a PlayStation with a removable disk drive, new headphones and so on, that is, a rather interesting update to the catalog of accessories for PS5, although reserving the Pro version for later.

The Sony Q-Lite points to November of this year

And what can we expect for November? The rumors pointing to a very, very limited device, both in terms of its specifications and its functions. The first is not necessarily bad, if we talk about a portable console oriented to play in the cloud. On the contrary, some components chosen with efficiency in mind rather than gross performance seem to be a very suitable choice, since their users would gain autonomy.

Worse is the limitation in terms of functions, since some sources indicate that Q-Lite will only be compatible with the PlayStation 5 ecosystem, that is, it will only allow us to play through Remote Play, so it will be essential to have a PlayStation. Obviously we could expect that it would not be compatible with Xbox Cloud, but according to these sources it would not be compatible with GeForce Now either. If the very restrictive approach is finally confirmed, the end result could be quite disappointing.
