The Tesla Model S Plaid is the fastest electric car in the world today, according to this test

Our colleagues at MotorTrend have tested several high-end electric cars, and it was Elon Musk’s Tesla Model S Plaid that was the fastest in terms of its acceleration from 0 to 96 km /h.

The Tesla Model S Plaid is undoubtedly one of the fastest cars in the world. She had already managed to complete the 400 m in 9.2 seconds, then, a few days later, the 0 to 100 km/h in 1.98 seconds. However, we had seen that Elon Musk’s car had given way to the Rimac Nevera in another test.

For its part, MotorTrend did not test the Rimac Nevera, and came to the conclusion that it was indeed the Tesla Model S Plaid which arrived at the top of the ranking of the fastest cars in the world. According to their test, the Plaid managed to reach 96 km/h in 2.3 secondsfar from the 1.99 seconds officially mentioned by Tesla.

The Model S Plaid overtakes the Porsche Taycans

In the MotorTrend test, Elon Musk’s Tesla Model S therefore did better than the German Porsche Taycan Turbo S. The latter still offers a 0 to 96 km / h in just 2.4 seconds, but it’s not enough to dethrone the overpowered Model S Plaid.

We then find the Lucid Air Grand Touring Performance with 2.7 seconds, the Audi RS E-Tron GT with 2.9 seconds or the Mercedes-AMG EQS 4Matic+ Sedan with 3.0 seconds. All other cars in the standings are SUVs or pick-ups from GMC, Rivian, Kia or even BMW.

Although it is currently the fastest car in the world according to MotorTrend, the Tesla Model S Plaid is not expected to hold its place for very long. Indeed, we had seen that Lucid was preparing to launch a new 100% electric sedan in 2023, the Air Sapphire. The latter has already been able in another test to leave the Tesla on the floor by reaching 400 meters in just 9.1 seconds, and acceleration also feels slightly faster. It remains to be seen if MotorTrend’s tests this year will confirm this exceptional performance.
