Mendel Brain plans to land in the United States at the end of 2023. This has been announced by the CEO of the company, Aitor Garcia Anaya, some days ago.
The startup has developed the first DNA test aimed at the final consumer, that helps early detection and prevention of mental health problems, endorsed by the Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products (AEMPS). This same genetic test will be sold in the US market through its own online store that the startup is already developing and that it plans to have ready after the summer.
Currently, Mendel Brain genetic tests are already on the market in all the countries of the European Union and in England. “The choice of the United States to continue our internationalization process is not accidental since it is one of the first countries in the world in DNA sequencing”, argues the CEO.
The startup is currently In full search for strategic partners that already operate in the United States, so that they work with them in the arrival of their product to this country, the company has worked hand in hand with ICEX to consolidate this issue. The CEO has explained that “scientific rigor it is one of the pillars of Mendel Brain. In Spain we already have the approval of the AEMPS and our team of professionals is already working to get the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to also endorse our test”.
Aitor García has also recalled some of his objectives: the development of a genetic test aimed at children, even broader than they already have. From the company they defend that these types of tests are essential for the early detection of depression or other disorders related to mental health at any age.
This project arises in a context in which the World Health Organization (WHO) predicts that mental pathologies will be the leading cause of disability by 2030. The prevention of these problems is possible considering that this test analyzes 54 psychological personality traits. From them, it is possible to identify those variations associated with psychological characteristics related to the response to stress, anxiety or even addictions, among others.
