We have been hearing about this product for so long that one no longer knows when to believe that “the wolf is coming”. However, this time it does seem the final one. The Apple WWDC 2023which the company celebrates on June 5, is destined to be one of those that will go down in the history of the brand, since in it we will finally see, as all the indications indicate, the virtual glasses of the company. This is what you should know about them and why this time we are so sure of their come-out.
xrOS, the system that will reign in Apple glasses
Apple has been working on its glasses for years but until recently it does not seem to have decided on a definitive name for the system that will bring it to life. As a new product concept that it is, this team will have an adapted and new operating system for its operation, an ecosystem that until not long ago was known as “realityOS”, but that just a few months ago -at the end of last year- passed to be baptized as xrOS.
This name, whose first two letters respond to «extended reality» (while the other two are from «operative system», as always) make it clear that we will not be using virtual reality glasses beforehand, but rather that those from Cupertino have decided to bet on mixed or extended reality, in which it combines virtual reality and augmented reality, a bit more in the style of Microsoft’s HoloLens, for example.
The team therefore will not take us completely out of the place where we are but will combine, creating a new interaction environment about which we still know very little. Yes, it has been commented, that apps like FaceTime They will have an important presence, facilitating new forms of interaction. Mark Gurman, more than known for his work in Bloomberg and his first-hand information related to Apple, he pointed out not long ago that we will also have the presence of practically all the native apps that we can find on the iPad (Mail, Maps, Books…) as well as solutions specially developed for sports (based on Fitness+, of course), practice meditation or consume multimedia content such as a movie.
A completely new environment that, knowing how Apple spends on these things, can be groundbreaking and revolutionary.
What clues do we have of his imminent arrival?
In addition to the incessant rumors from renowned leakers that ensure that this WWDC is the edition in which we will meet the glasses, we can say that we have lived two key moments who have come to confirm these suspicions.
On the one hand, the aforementioned popularity of the ecosystem itself, something that Apple did at the beginning of December last year, thus showing that the product is much more advanced than we thought.

On the other, and much juicier: the xrOS registry. Apple has been caught registering the xrOS brand (with the detail of the xr in lower case and the rest in upper case, something that I had not done until now) in the New Zealand patent office – you can see the tweet of a journalist from The Verge indicating it on these lines. This, in addition to reaffirming the fact that this is how we will know the system of his glasses, shows that everything is taking its course, and that little can be left for the announcement of his new mixed reality glasses.
As for the name of the gadget itself, everything indicates that it will be baptized as apple glass, but again, we will not have official confirmation until June 5th. An epic WWDC awaits us.
