Twitter fires its CISO and chief security officer

Following Jack Dorsey’s departure from Twitter a few weeks ago, two other key executives have just announced they are leaving the most popular microblogging platform. We speak in this case of Peter Zatko, director of security of the company and of Rinki Sethi, Platform CISO.

That of Peiter Zatko, has been the output that has caused the most surprises since we are talking about a respected hacker better known as “Mudge”, who was named chief security officer in 2020 after Twitter suffered a bug that allowed cybercriminals to tweet from verified accounts of public figures such as Bill Gates or Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

Although the company has not wanted to confirm it officially, information from the New York Times that picks up the news indicates that the departure of both would not have been voluntary. In this sense, the American publication comments how last week the company’s new CEO, Parag Agrawal, sent an internal memo to employees informing them that the change has come about as a result of “an assessment of how the organization is being run and the impact on top priority work.”

Agrawal, who was appointed CEO of Twitter in November, has introduced several changes in his management team since he has taken the reins of the company and among his first measures have been the dismissal of two of the great veterans of the organization: Dantley Davis , chief designer and Michael Montano, chief engineer.

Before taking up his new position at Twitter, Peiter Zatko made a name for himself in the security leaderships of DARPA, Google, and Stripe and began his cybersecurity career in the 1990s when he was a member of the Cult of the Dead Cow hacker group.

For her part, Rinki Sethi joined the company shortly before Zatko and before taking charge of improving the security and protection of user data, she had been vice president of information security at IBM, in addition to having a past in positions similar in companies like Intuit or Walmart.
