For several years now, many electric car manufacturers have been fighting to hope to be the first to launch an electric car below the €25,000 mark. Tesla has been promising it since 2018, but for the moment nothing concrete is on the horizon, even if this mysterious Model 2 has been talked about recently.

Renault has also embarked on this race against time with the electric R5, which should be displayed under €25,000 when it is launched in 2024. But we must not forget another major participant in this competition : volkswagen. As we knew, the German manufacturer has confirmed the launch of 10 electric cars by 2026. Among them, the ID.7 sedan, the recent redesign of the ID. 3 2023, without forgetting the mysterious ID. 2 or ID. Golfthe model for less than €25,000 mentioned by many rumours.

Volkswagen presents the ID. 2all, its future electric car under €25,000

Well precisely, Volkswagen has just put an end to the rumors of the corridor by unveiling this Wednesday, March 15, 2023 the ID. 2all, an all-new concept car. With this model, the German company gives us a taste of what the ID will be. 2 or the ID. Golf, its first 100% electric car for less than €25,000.

The ID. 2all indicates the general direction where we want to lead the brand with our products: proximity to our customers, high level of technology and superb design. We are accelerating our transformation to make electromobility accessible to all”, announces Thomas Schäfer, CEO of VW.

A design thought as a tribute to the Golf and the Polo

As can be seen on the visuals provided by the manufacturer, this concept car displays a rather wise design, far from the eccentric lines and follies that are usually found on these preparatory models. In other words, chances are that the final design of the ID. 2 is very close to this one.

And precisely, to achieve this exterior design, VW relied on three founding principles: stability, sympathy and enthusiasm. As explained by Andreas Mindt, the chief designer of the concept car, the ID. 2all was thought above all as a tribute to the Beetle, the Golf and the Pololike a reinterpretation of these cult models.

We are therefore far from the cubic lines and the “Toy” aspect of ID concept. Life presented in September 2021 by the brand. No, with ID. 2all, VW went back to something more classic, or more conservative, some would say.

A cabin inspired by the ID.3 2023

In 2023, Volkswagen is expected to turn on a particular aspect: the level of finish of the interior of its electric cars. For good reason, many users have pointed the finger in the past the deplorable quality of the interior of the ID. 3 (low-end materials, badly arranged controls, etc.).

The manufacturer has revised its copy on the new 2023 redesign of the ID. 3, presented on March 1, 2023. Volkswagen intends to continue in this direction with the ID. 2all, which here has a refined interior with a high quality finish and controls for the sound volume and for the air conditioning finally arranged intelligently (with a wheel and button bar just below the infotainment screen).

Let’s talk about the central screen. Of a nice size, namely 12.9″, it will benefit from a new interface, clearer and more intuitive according to the manufacturer. The driver will be able to find all the important information on the digital driving position with a 10.9″ head-up display.

Space to spare

As you may know, Volkswagen is currently developing its own full electric powertrain, which includes an all-new platform. For this concept car, VW preferred to stay on the platform SEMbut in its brand new Entry version.

On this variant, there is an electric motor coupled to the front axle, which makes the ID. 2all the first ID. brand pull. But above all, the MEB Entry saves space: a volume of 440 liters for the trunk. To this must be added another 50-litre storage under the rear seat, capable of accommodating and recharging rather large devices such as laptops or tablets. In total, by folding the rear seats, the total volume increases to 1330 liters!

80% autonomy in just 20 minutes

Of course, the MEB Entry allows the brand to introduce welcome optimizations to vehicle performance and charging. The electric motor of 166kW (226 hp) integrated in the front axle allows to perform 0 to 100 km/h in just 7 seconds.

On the autonomy side, the brand promises 450 km in the WLTP cyclewhile the battery can be recharged from 10 to 80% in 20 minutes on a direct current fast charging station. Unfortunately, we don’t have any additional battery details yet.

The serial version of the ID. 2all will be a real electric vehicle for every day of the year. A typical Volkswagen. With sufficient space and great autonomy that will allow you to reach your destination without problems […] Thanks to the great MEB modularity, our customers will be able to access the latest technologies while remaining in a price category of 25,000 €”, concludes Volkswagen.
