Waze has just announced that it has partnered with Volkswagen to provide its users with an important feature. Indeed, the two companies are launching a new feature that will allow Waze users to locate electric vehicle charging stations on the map, which will be very useful for those users who have already given up on thermal cars.

Previously, electric car drivers had to go through applications such as Google Maps, PlugShare and Chargemap to easily find nearby stations, but also to plan their routes. From now on, the Waze application will be able to indicate the charging stations, but not yet for all users.

Waze does not yet offer this feature in France

Unfortunately for French users, Waze will only add certain charging stations in the United States. Indeed, his new partner Volkswagen is the owner of Electrify America which owns numerous stations in the United States., only these will therefore be indicated on the map for the moment. Users will also be able to transform the car displayed on Waze into a Volkswagen ID. 4. The latter will benefit from a major update in 2022, since the recharge time will be considerably reduced.

It’s an incredibly exciting time for Waze, as Volkswagen is adding EV charging stations to our map for the first time, ahead of a very busy holiday season. Volkswagen is helping to define the look of EVs on the Waze map and we look forward to highlighting the breadth of EV stations available in the United States, especially as more and more auto brands move towards an electric future Said Jeffrey Kohl, Industry Manager at Waze. We imagine that it will then also soon be possible to find other stations such as Tesla’s Superchargers, whose network is currently expanding very quickly.

Although Waze can now display stations on the map, some of its competitors like Google Maps are still more useful. Indeed, the Google application not only allows you to quickly find a station, but has also been showing the availability of charging stations in real time for more than two years, which allows drivers not to stop unnecessarily in a crowded station.
