WhatsApp adds new functions to voice messages: now also with video

Many are the users who, instead of fighting with the keyboard of their mobile, choose to send audio messages, messages that can last from seconds to several minutes as if it were a podcast. This format, as popular as it is hated by many users, has just expanded its functionality.

Mark Zuckerberg has announced through his Facebook account the arrival of video messages to WhatsApp, a function that, on certain occasions, can be very useful, although not on a day-to-day basis, unless the podcast format is used. go to the short video format.

This functionality, like many others implemented by this platform It was already available on Telegram for several years and the use that many users have always given it has been the right one, so we do not quite understand the reason why WhatsApp has implemented it.

So that this new function does not overwhelm the WhatsApp servers, video messages are limited to one maximum duration of 60 seconds and they will play automatically when we receive them, yes, silently, like the videos that are shown on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and others. Only when we click on the video, it will start to play the sound and it will do so from the beginning.

Depending on how this function evolves, it is possible that it will be extended over time. Like audio messages, video messages are end-to-end encrypted.

How to send video messages with WhatsApp

To send video messages via WhatsApp, no other button has been implemented. It is also not necessary to use the video call button. If we want to send a message of this type, we must use the same button that we use to send audio messages.

When clicking on this button, a message will be displayed informing us that if we want to send an audio message we must keep the button pressed. If we want to send a video message, we must click on the button again.

At that time, as long as the application has permission to access the camera of our device, a countdown of 3 seconds will be displayed, the image of the rear camera will be displayed. We can switch to the front camera from the bottom of the application. Once we click on the send button, it will be sent automatically. At the moment we do not have the possibility to edit the video before sending it.

This new feature was first implemented in the beta that launched in early June, but there was no approximate date for its release. Now that it is official, from WhatsApp, they affirm that it will begin to reach users in the coming daysso the only thing we have to worry about is checking if we have any pending updates to install to start using it.
