You can now install the Wii and GameCube emulator on Xbox natively

Microsoft consoles have become true allies for all those who love retro games. And it is that until now the emulation options had been quite complete, since with the possibility of installing RetroArch on the consoles, the options were endless. But what if you could install a specific emulator with the best possible performance?

That is what has happened with Dolphin, the well-known Wii and Gamecube emulatora tool that have ported to UWP version, which means that it can be installed as a native application within the console. This allows us to enjoy a much better performance than what was achieved until now through RetroArch for Xbox Series, so the games run much better.

As they have been able to verify on the YouTube channel Modern Vintage Gamerthe performance differences of this new Dolphin application with respect to the emulator running from RetroArch are quite important, and to make matters worse we are talking about a preliminary version, so things could even improve.

How do you install Dolphin on the Xbox?

To install the Dolphin emulator on the Xbox, you must enter the Xbox Emulation Hub Discord channel, from which you can obtain an invitation by entering the Gamr13 repository (we leave you the link below). Once inside the Discord group, you must accept the terms indicated and look for the retail-announcements channel, which is where they publish the URLs that will take you directly to the Microsoft Store.

These URLs You must enter them in the Edge browser of the console so that the Microsoft store opens and you can directly download the application on your console. This is the easiest way to install these apps without having to have your console in developer mode.

And the ROMs?

Once the application is installed, all you have to do is plug a USB memory into the port of your console with the ROMs you have, so that Dolphin can access them directly. As always, you will have to take care of looking for them, since we do not know anything about it.

The problem is that the entire configuration is, for now, quite tedious. With the application installed and the ROMs located, we will be able to directly run a game without problems, but when it comes to interacting we will realize that the remote does not respond. This is because the configuration files are not defined, and to fix this we need a Windows PC from which to copy a configuration file with the previously configured Xbox controller in Dolphin. This is something that will stop many users, since there are many steps, but taking into account that the UWP version continues to be updated continuously, we have no doubt that these complications will be solved soon, and we will surely be able to configure the controller directly from the console shortly. .
