5 reasons why I switched from Windows to Linux and I don’t regret it

As Windows has evolved, the number of features and capabilities that have been included have always been associated with newer hardware, generally for the benefit of security, such as the TPM chip and Secure Boot, two requirements related to data security. from our team to be able to install Windows 11 and future versions. Although it is true that we can skip the Windows 11 requirements, by doing so, we lose benefits along the way, a problem that we will not find in Linux.

After spending 30 years using Windows as a day-to-day operating system, and after thinking about it a lot, I have finally decided that the time has come to make the change and adopt Linux as a day-to-day operating system. The reasons that led me to make the change are the following:

  • Minimum requirements. In the market we can find a large number of Linux distributions designed to work on practically any computer, however old it may be. Whether we have state-of-the-art equipment or if we have decided to give our old laptop or computer a new one, on the Internet we will find a distribution that will allow us to give it a second life again.
  • Free apps for everything. Photoshop and Office are two of the most widely used applications in the world within Windows and macOS, applications that are unfortunately not available for Linux. However, unless we excessively depend on the services they offer us, we can use LibreOffice to create any type of document and GIMP to edit any photo.

  • It’s free. With the release of Windows 10, Microsoft made its operating system free for all users with a valid Windows 7 or Windows 8 license. With the release of Windows 11, the Redmond-based company has followed the same policy. However, this license is non-transferable as it is associated with the hardware of the machine where we have installed it for the first time, forcing the user to buy a new license if they want to install it on another computer, licenses that are not exactly cheap. All Linux distributions available on the market are completely free and are not associated with any specific hardware, so we can use this operating system without any type of limitation on any computer.
  • Safer. Windows is a very secure operating system and nothing has to send Linux and macOS. However, as it is the operating system with the largest market share in the world, the friends of foreigners focus their efforts on creating malicious software for this operating system, so the number of possibilities that our computer ends up infected is very high. higher than if we use Linux or macOS.
  • customizable. Each of the different Linux distributions that we can download includes a different desktop design. However, we can download and install other desktops to improve our experience. In addition, we can also customize the aesthetics and operation in a very simple way.

Linux has evolved a lot in recent years and today no need to interact with the command line to perform any action in the operating system. The graphical interface of most Linux distributions allows us to carry out any action and/or modification to the system through the graphical interface, without it being necessary to use commands that very few users know about, especially if they have no knowledge of this operating system.
