What’s New from VMware to Help Improve Communications Service Providers

Multicloud service provider for applications, VMware has just unveiled a suite of news, innovations and partnerships to enable Communications Service Providers (CSPs) to rapidly modernize their networks in an energy efficient manner. As well as accelerating 5G core, RAN and edge deployments and lifecycle management.

It should be remembered that currently the CSPs are accelerating the 5G and Open RAN deployments to meet the demands of consumers and businesses, increasingly opting for ultra-low latency and high-speed networks with which to carry out a successful digital transformation.

This rapid pace of deployment introduces, of course, operational complexities from network lifecycle management to the interoperability of providers or the guarantee of network service. “CSPs in turn need to rapidly modernize their networks and deploy overlay services to monetize their investments. VMware’s flexibility and consistency in delivering a multi-cloud approach enables our CSP customers to meet this challenge,” said Sanjay Uppal, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Service Provider and Edge, VMware.

In this sense, the enhanced version of VMware Telco Cloud Platform is capable of supporting more than 275 virtual network functions (VNF) and cloud native network functions (CNF). While VMware Telco Cloud Platform 2.5 with VMware Telco Cloud Automation 2.1 enable CSPs to streamline the innovation cycle to deliver new network servicesreduce operational complexities for VNF and CNF onboarding, instantiation, and lifecycle management to achieve substantial TCO savings.

All the news from VMware

Among other, VMware Telco Cloud Platform includes updating control plane and worker node pools separately amid cluster failure management; an improvement in the protection and security of 5G networks against security attacks through intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDPS) for east-west network traffic; And accelerate the deployment of network services with an expanding partner ecosystem of more than 275 virtualized and containerized network functions (VNFs and CNFs), including Mavenir’s Converged Packet Core.

For its part, VMware Telco Cloud Automation 2.1 extends multi-cloud operations and automation capabilities with new support for AWS and Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) that enables CSPs to provision CNFs directly in native Amazon EKS.

While VMware Telco Cloud Service Assurance 2.0 With its latest version, it supports new use cases for securing mobile services, including CaaS, 4G and 5G mobile cores, network slicing, and RAN. To streamline testing and proof of concept (PoC) of this software, VMware has expanded its scope with its DISH Wireless client. It is currently testing VMware software to monitor its distributed cloud infrastructure and collect metrics and logs that provide actionable insights and facilitate automated, closed-loop provisioning and management.

also highlights VMware Telco Cloud Platform RAN 2.0, which speeds and simplifies deployments across distributed RAN sites with intelligent automation in the cloud. A release that enables improved performance, operability, and scale, helping speed adoption and reduce time to market.

The incorporation of VMware Bare Metal Automation provides CSPs with simplified zero-touch provisioning and lifecycle management from bare metal provisioning to telco cloud infrastructure and network functions.

and the improvements of VMware ESXi -included in the platform-, which provide a performance of latency equivalent to Bare Metal and the advantages of flexibility, agility and security inherent to virtualization platforms.
