That of the “standard” iPad was one of the most anticipated renewals (in terms that practically everyone expected that it would be produced) and, although this time without an event, Apple has finally sent it to us. The tenth generation iPad, which will be known as the iPad of the end of 2022, is now official (and you will not be able to say that it catches you by surprise, because we already told you yesterday that its arrival was very close), and it comes with interesting changes, both on the outside and on the inside. Thus, we will begin this review with the visible face, and then jump into its interior.
Aesthetically the change is more than evident. On the one hand, and as is already the case with other devices of the brand, the iPad 2022 arrives loaded with color, with a back made of recycled aluminum and available in four colors: silver, yellow, red and blue, versus the classic space gray and silver of the previous generation. In this regard, as a personal anecdote, a friend bought an iPad 2021 just a few weeks ago and, seeing the new colors, the demons have taken it for not having waited.
We also see changes in its design, and now the edges are straight, thus bringing its design closer to that of the iPhone. However, the most remarkable thing about its exterior, and which has a direct impact on the user experience, is its 10.9-inch screen, compared to 10.2 of the previous model. Something that is also more meritorious if we take into account that its dimensions have hardly been modified. with 24.86 x 17.95 x 0.70 centimeters of the new model, compared to 25.06 x 17.41 x 0.75 centimeters of the 2021 model.
This is achieved, surely you have already noticed it, reducing the size of the screen bezel, mainly at the top and especially at the bottom, with the removal of the Home button. Now, don’t let that make you think of a change from Touch ID to Face Id. The iPad 2022 continues to use the fingerprint as a biometric identification system, but eThe sensor moves to the unlock button, a location that you already use on the iPad Air. In addition, the front camera abandons its classic location, the upper bezel, to be located on the side.
Without abandoning its True Tone screen, LED with IPS technology, the Ipad 2022 makes the jump from Retina to Liquid Retina, with a resolution of 2,360 by 1,640 points in a density of 264 pixels per inch, with a brightness of 500 nits, and that has an anti-fingerprint oleophobic coating, already present in the previous generation. And whether you already use it or are thinking of buying it, it is compatible with the Apple Pencil.
Already inside, we see that this iPad 2022 is commanded by an Apple A14 Bionic SoC. Again we see a jump with respect to its predecessor, but this is not a point at which Apple has decided to bet on the most cutting-edge solution, since we are talking about an integrated that came to light in 2020, in the guts of the iPhone 12, and that it jumped to the tablets of those from Cupertino in the iPad Air of that same year, 2020, and that curiously offered better performance on the tablet than on the smartphone. As is common in Apple, it has not reported the amount of integrated RAM, but the available storage capacities, 64 and 256 gigabytes.
When it comes to connectivity, all models have Wi‑Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2and in the model with cellular connectivity we do find another important evolution, since this iPad 2022 has 5G connectivity. Apple states that there is no difference in the autonomy of the previous model and the current one, which is estimated at 10 hours, although in this case the battery is 28.6 watt hours, compared to 32.4 of the previous model.
Although personally, the iPad has never seemed to me the most practical device for taking photos, there is no doubt that its cameras are another important element for many users. In the back we will find a sensor of 12 megapixel ultra wide angle, f / 1.8 numberwith autofocus function, image stabilizer and intelligent HDR 3. As for the front, which jumps from the top to the side (unless you usually use it in a horizontal position, in which case you will perceive the change in the opposite direction), we find another ultra wide angle, this one with a 122º field of view, also 12 megapixels but somewhat less bright (f/2.4).
The new iPad 2022 you can already reserver on the Apple website, and deliveries will begin this month, on October 26. As for their prices, and as you surely expected, we see a rise compared to the previous generation. Let us remember that in the ninth generation we started from 429 euros, while in this case we have to jump to 579. These are the prices of the four available models:
