Apple wants to increase its production in India to 25% of the total

Manzana wants the 25% of its hardware production is made in India. This has been confirmed, according to Reuters, by the Minister of Commerce of India. Apple continues, meanwhile, with the transfer of the production of its equipment outside of China to other countries, also in Asia for the most part.

Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce of the country, has taken the opportunity to present India as a competitive destination for companies dedicated to the manufacture of products. He recalled that the company «it already has between 5% and 7% of its manufacturing in India. If I’m not wrong, they aim to have up to 25%. They have launched their latest models from India, Made in India«.

Of course, for now it is unknown when Apple plans to reach that target percentage. Neither the company nor Goyal have offered any information in this regard. Meanwhile, analysts at JP Morgan pointed out as early as last year that by 2025 a quarter of Apple’s products would be made outside of China. Currently only 5% of the total is manufactured in other countries.

Those from Cupertino have been betting heavily on India for years, after beginning to assemble the iPhone in the country in 2017, first by Wistrom, and later by Foxconn. The latter, in fact, plans to multiply its staff at its iPhone factory in India by four over the next two years.

According to him Indian Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw, Apple’s exports from India already reached 1,000 million dollars last December. Everything indicates that they will continue to rise, mainly due to the COVID-related restrictions and lockdowns in China. But also to the increase in commercial and geopolitical tensions between China and the United States. Undoubtedly, this has had an influence on Apple’s plans to take its production to other countries.
