Artificial intelligence is definitely interfering everywhere, even in Windows 11. After having integrated the search bar of the operating system, AI will soon be accessible within a new Copilot application, still under Windows 11.
Last March, Microsoft announced the integration of its “Copilot” artificial intelligence within the Office 365 suite. Thanks to it, it is possible to create complex tables, to extract certain data from them, to compose a PowerPoint document, to format it, etc. All this without any particular knowledge of this software and in a handful of seconds.
Microsoft does not intend to stop there and has just announced that Windows 11 would also benefit from Copilot. An operating system boosted with AI? This could radically change our habits and our use of the OS.
Windows 11 will be enriched with an AI, a great first for an OS
Microsoft, which is currently holding its annual Build, is starting to make multiple announcements. But the one that holds our attention for the moment concerns Windows 11. Copilot, whose efficiency we have already been able to appreciate in Office 365, is thus preparing to enter the operating system. According to the Redmond company, “Windows will be the first PC platform to integrate centralized AI assistance with the introduction of Windows Copilot.”
Microsoft nevertheless recalls that artificial intelligence has already appeared in the OS: the new version of Bing, which is also doped with hormones from an AI, has recently been integrated into the taskbar.
But let’s get back to Copilot: if Microsoft is not very verbose in its press release, the screenshot officially released gives us some indications of the possibilities offered by Windows Copilot. For example, the AI should answer the question “Help me plan my fishing trip”, “Adjust my settings so that I can concentrate” or “Summarize and write an article from this application”. It will therefore be possible to request any type of assistance from Copilotwhether features related to the OS and its applications, or otherwise.
Copilot should fill a big gap in Windows management
Copilot should not just be a simple assistant, as Cortana can be, but offer more functionality. Something to revolutionize the daily use that we make of Windows. Especially for those who do not wish to delve into the intricacies of the OS. No more searching in Settings or Control Panel to manage your PC’s hardware components. But no longer bother to launch the browser or any application to perform a search, manage your calendar, etc. Copilot will take care of everything.
Big changes are therefore to be expected in the coming weeks. And the good news is that it won’t be long to last: a preview version of Windows Copilot will be released in June 2023. Finally, note that Microsoft is also taking the opportunity to announce the full integration of the new Bing (its search engine) with ChatGPT. This feature is already available to ChatGPT Plus subscribers and will soon be available for those who use the free version of the AI (using a small plugin).
