During the pandemic we saw a strong sale of computers due to telecommuting and remote training. That time has passed and, as is normal, sales have fallen like a beast, giving spectacular data. HP and Dell suffer a drop in sales of more than 40%, while Lenovo is close to 35%, some data only includes clone computers, laptops and workstations.
The data published by Canalys refer to the sale of clone computers, laptops and workstations. In addition, it focuses only on the European market, so we have quite interesting data. The situation for some companies is complicated, very complicated, although they all suffer falls in sales.
The market is sinking in a bestial way
It’s not news that the PC market in general is undergoing a sharp correction. We come from a totally anomalous and exceptional situation that has given beastly data. Now we are in a process of regression, with worse sales than the period before the pandemic. It is logical, during COVID-19 many systems have been renewed.
First, Canalsys compares the sales of Q4 2022 with respect to Q4 2021, which is the same quarter, but from a different year. we see how Lenovo pass sell 4.4 million of systems to “only” 2.9 million of systems, suffering a drop close to 35%. The interesting thing is that it rises in market share by 1.5%.
HP suffers a drop of practically the 43% and Dell suffers a drop of almost the 42.5%. ASUS for his part suffers a drop close to the 25% and Manzana is the best stop, suffering a drop less than 23%. What’s more, Apple is the one that rises the most in market share, with a rise of 2.7% of overall market share.
About the general data, we see quite interesting information. During the Q4 2022 they were sold 10.7 million of systems, while in the Q4 2021 they were sold 17.4 million of systems. We talk about a market crash of 38.5%.
Acer collapses and Apple weathers the storm well
Not only the data for Q4 2022 has been shown, but annual data has also been given. These data show a much more measured drop in sales, so the data seen in the last quarter of last year is something, apparently, punctual.
Lenovo registers a drop of just over 17.6%, which is not great data, but it is below the market crash. HP is above 26% and Dell is close to 22%, being above the market crash.
The person who has best supported the drop in sales is Apple, which barely fell by 5.3%, a very positive figure. While Dell has been overwhelmed by the situation with a year-on-year drop of 38%. A huge collapse in sales that we do not know how it will affect the company in the long term.
Regarding the accumulated, we see how a total of 51.6 million systems were sold during 2022. We see how in 2021 there were sales of 64.9 million units. We have a global fall of 20.5%, something that shows that it has been a quite negative year.
Thanks to these data we can better understand the price collapse of SSDs and RAM. We must bear in mind that the clone systems market is the main source of income for manufacturers of such components.
