CES 2023: Asus unveils an Xbox controller with an integrated OLED screen

Asus took advantage of CES in Las Vegas to announce a new PC/Xbox controller, the ROG Raikiri Pro. The latter is dedicated to performance enthusiasts and has an interesting feature: it is equipped with a small OLED screen.

Asus loves OLED screens so much that it puts them on all of its products, even those that don’t usually need a display. After presenting many PCs (all equipped with OLED panels), the Taiwanese firm unveiled the ROG Raikiri Pro… which embeds a small screen.

This is an Xbox controller, but Asus presents it as a Pad primarily dedicated to PC gamers. As we can see, its particularity is just above the Home button: a small 1.3-inch OLED screen.

This OLED screen with a definition of 128 x 40 pixels, all in length, serves to display important information to the player. For example the battery level, the pairing, the microphone or even small animations in the middle of the game. A good idea, but far from unprecedented. Microsoft had already released an Xbox controller with a built-in screen a few years ago (the reissue of the Duke for the Xbox One) and we all remember the Dreamcast controller, which had an LCD screen.

We also notice the presence of RGB LEDs on the chassis in order to personalize its dear controller even more. For the rest, we are in the great classic, since the design logically takes up the canons established by Microsoft on the Elite. For example, there are additional buttons on the back.

Technically, we can note several interesting things. First, it will be possible to create profiles and remap keys directly through Asus’ application, Armory Crate. The Pad also connects in three different ways to your PC: wired, bluetooth or 2.4 Ghz connection. Note that on Xbox Series X / S, only the wired connection is possible: the ROG Raikiri Pro is above all a controller designed for the PC.

The controller should arrive in the second quarter of 2023 at a price of 189 euros. A non-Pro version (without screen) will be available for 119 euros.
