For a few years now, automakers around the world have been fighting a fierce battle to be the first to launch an affordable electric car, with a price set below the symbolic cap of €25,000.

Imagine that Citroën has just given priority to its main competitors, Tesla, Volkswagen and Renault in the lead. As reported by our colleagues from Figarothe chevron brand confirmed on June 16, 2023 the launch from early 2024 of the Citroën ë-C3.

Citroën will launch its first affordable electric city car from 2024

This new electric city car, which will be officially presented next October, will be manufactured in Slovakia in the factory Trnava, alongside its thermal counterpart. According to the manufacturer, this 5-seater car will benefit from a revised design and will show a range of about 300 km. But above all, its main argument will remain its price, promised under €25,000.

Today, the challenge is electric mobility, and that’s what we’re going to do with a unique offer on the market that will make it accessible to everyone.” said Thierry Koskas, Managing Director of the Citroën brand and Sales and Marketing Director of the Stellantis Group.

Apart from the promise to offer an electric car under 25,000 €, we will especially remember Citroën’s desire to launch a consumer model made exclusively in Europe. A logical choice for the chevron brand, if only to maintain a certain “ecological coherence”.

The logical choice of manufacturing in Europe

Citroën could hardly afford to sell a clean car made in India or China before being transported thousands of kilometers by sea. Of course, An economic aspect also comes into play. Many European countries have already announced changes to their respective purchase aids.

As you may know, this will be the case in France from 2024. The government has added environmental criteria. Thus, manufacturers considered polluting by manufacturing their cars in China or the United States will not be eligible for the ecological bonus.

Several brands have already taken the lead, such as Renault, which developed the Electricity division in the north of France. This site will be in charge of the production of the electric R5, also offered at around 25,000 €. On his side, Volkswagen chose Spain to install the production lines for the ID.2 all, its electric city car sold for less than €25,000.
