Cloudflare WARP, the free VPN from the network giant

Are you looking for a free but reliable VPN? Depending on what you mean by legit and whatever you ask of a VPN, you may be interested in meeting Cloudflare WARPa solution that the network giant makes available to the common user and that has a lot to offer.

But let’s start at the beginning: a VPN, as you know, is a virtual private network or a virtual private networkbroadly speaking, a connection overlaying the default in which the IP address is masked from outside the equipment, providing an additional layer of privacy that even reaches your Internet provider.

Now, when talking about VPN, it is usually made up of services that, among other things, allow you to connect with IPs from different places throughout the world to bypass territorial restrictions -hence comes the typical hook of “being able to watch Netflix and similar from countries with better nourished catalogues- and do it, in addition, with good speed. Otherwise, to only prioritize privacy, better to use something like Tor.

That being said, VPNs cost money and those that don’t, or offer a limited service in terms of available connections and speed that makes them unbearable for daily use, or pose a risk to privacy, if not security, which you shouldn’t use. does nothing advisable. Of course, there are exceptions, with buts: nobody gives anything away.

For example, we recently talked about the Google One VPN in these parts, a very interesting service for subscribers to Google payment plans that, however, also has its limitations: in this case, the impossibility of choosing a location from which to connect, although a different IP is assigned.

Cloudflare WARP VPN

The same is the case with Cloudflare WARP, a service that has improved a lot since it was announced almost four years ago as a mobile application and that today is the best that can be found in its category. In fact, Cloudflare WARP is a proposal very similar to the Google Cloud VPN, but free as a basic.

In essence, Cloudflare WARP creates a VPN that assigns a new IP, although in the same location or in one very close to the ISP’s own, encrypts all traffic and is practically as fast as your connectionnot in vain is offered by the giant of content delivery networks and the great defense wall against massive DoSS attacks.

Some of its limitations, such as connecting only from the location itself, are optional upon payment, but it is not necessary to enjoy the service at full capacity. And what’s better: Cloudflare WARP is available for mobile (Android, iOS) and PC, including Windows, Mac and Linux. Without going any further, I recommend the article that I dedicated to Cloudflare WARP in MuyLinux.

By the way: Cloudflare WARP not only acts as a VPN, but also modifies the system’s DNS, a very specific detail that you will also find explained in the previous article, but which is worth mentioning here because of its importance. What’s more, you’ll find Cloudflare’s DNS available in browsers like Firefox or Chrome, disabled by default, yes.

As for privacy, if you trust the terms of service and privacy policies not only of Cloudflare WARP, but of any other VPN service on the market… And if not, then no. More information and the download of clients, in the Cloudflare WARP official site.
