Dell increases the range of PowerEdge servers to achieve more sustainable and powerful data centers

Dell Technologies has expanded its range of PowerEdge servers with new units with 4th generation AMD Epyc processors. All are developed to optimize the process of demanding workloads, but also to improve efficiency and security. Dell PowerEdges are equipped with the smart cooling technology from Dell, allowing them to reduce CO2 emissions, while its cyber-resilient architecture helps strengthen the protection of sensitive data.

All are available in single and dual socket configurations, and support up to 50% more cores per processor than the previous generation. Dell promises these servers will be 121% better in performance over them, while supporting up to 33% more drives for entry-level 2U servers, and up to 60% more drives for 1U2 servers. .

The new PowerEdge servers that Dell has just announced are as follows:

  • Dell Power Edge R7625: Features a 2U, 2-socket platform, accelerates in-memory databases by more than 72%, and improves application performance and data storage.
  • Dell Power Edge R7615: This is a 1 socket 2U server with faster memory bandwidth than previous generations. It features improved storage drive density, designed to create a smaller footprint in the data center while enabling faster multitasking. Accelerate AI workloads with maximum expandability.
  • Dell Power Edge R6625: is a 2-socket 1U server developed to balance performance, flexibility, and density. It is suitable for high-performance computing workloads or running multiple instances of virtual desktop infrastructures.
  • Dell PowerEdge R6615: A 1U server with one socket, with which you can achieve higher density of virtual machines than previous generations. Its design is compact, and offers more computing power in a dense form factor.

The cooling technology that they incorporate, which as we have mentioned is Dell Smart Cooling, allows them to have more air flow compared to previous systems. Also, by better managing cooling, they can run longer at a high level.

Its “cyber resistant” architecture means that they include functions such as system blocking, detection of configuration deviations and multi-factor authentication. Thus, they enable more secure operations with end-to-end boot resiliency. In this way, by integrating them in a data center, more security is achieved in the basic layers.

The security of these processors is increased thanks to the fact that AMD Epyc processors integrate a dedicated security processor on chip, which makes it easier to implement technologies such as confidential computing. And thanks to AMD’s approach to security by design, they include an integrated security subsystem, designed for data protection in particular, and for more security in general.

The Dell PowerEdge R7625 server will be available with various configurations starting this November, while the rest of the server models will be available globally starting next February 2023.
