Disney + breaks subscriber record and prepares to raise the price

Disney+ may be one of the video-on-demand services that are working best at the user level, but this does not mean that it is still difficult to collect benefits with this model and, like others before it, the price increase is about to fall.

It’s no surprise, in fact: It’s been known for months that come December, the price of the Disney+ subscription would go up. from $7.99 to $10.99… in the United States. Here in Spain, if you are a Disney+ subscriber, you already know that the service costs 8.99 euros per month or 89.99 euros per year. A price that does not move at the moment, but that surely will, sooner rather than later.

For more data, the price increase in the United States will coincide with the launch of a new plan with advertising that, be careful, will cost the same as the current one, so it would not be surprising if the same thing happens when the rise moves to the rest of the territories in which the platform operates. And it’s going to be surreal, in the worst possible way.

If the conditions are transferred as they are to these parts, the new price of Disney + would be around 12.99 euros, while the new cheap plan with advertising would cost the current 8.99 euros. In other words, on Disney+ they expect people to pay 8.99 euros a month to get an ad in between what they’re watching.

Of course, it is not only Disney + that is acting in this regard. Netflix is already, on the one hand, raising prices and not a little, while introducing a cheaper plan with advertising. What’s more, here in Spain you can hire starting tomorrow, November 10: 5.49 euros per month for a reduced catalog and advertisements which television from three to a quarter (hopefully they do not abuse so much, but it will have to be seen).

But HBO Max also aims to repeat the strategy, raising prices once its merger with Discovery+ is complete, and they accompany the offer with a cheaper plan supplemented with advertising. If this new invention will work for them to squeeze the staff, we will have to see it, it is worth repeating, but in principle it does not seem to bode well for users, who will barely save a few euros, or for the platforms, whose business model is not resulting in the promised.

Disney+, by the way, will start this new journey supported by consistent data, and it is that according to what they have announced after their last fiscal report, the service already has some 164.2 million users Worldwide. Combined with Hulu and ESPN+, also owned by the company, subscribers exceed 235 million.
