Google presents its Pixel tablet to compete with Apple’s iPads

Google has unveiled the Pixel Tablet at the keynote of its annual developer event, Google I/O. Advance a year ago by the same company and after multiple leaks that have even included an Amazon Japan listing, there have been no surprises: the tablet is as we had anticipated.

It has long been expected that Google would respond to Apple’s dominance with iPads, beyond the fact that the low-end and entry-level tablets are completely occupied by models with Android. The Pixel Tablet is not just another model and can encourage more of its partners to step up the bar to compete with Apple.

The Google tablet is based on an LCD screen of 11 inches with a native resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels. With a pixel density of 276 PPI and a 16:10 aspect ratio, it is a capacitive multi-touch compatible with fingers and stylus under the USI 2.0 standard.

It was sung that Google would bet on its self-developed Tensor G2 chipset for its tablet and together with the Titan M2 coprocessor are the motors of the device. It has 8 Gbytes of LPDDR5 memory and storage options of 128 and 256 Gbytes.

In terms of connectivity, it supports the latest wireless standards Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2. It also has a USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 port for data and charging for a good-capacity 27 Wh battery. For the camera system, Google bets on the same 8 MP sensor for the rear and the front of video conferences. Its audio system is powered by 4 speakers and 3 microphones, and has a fingerprint sensor on the power button.

An interesting detail that we have already talked about is that the Pixel Tablet is not just a tablet, since it can carry out functions of smart home device.

To do this, it is connected to an expansion base. In this way, the tablet becomes a Nest Hub-like device.

It will be available in three color finishes and software-wise, we don’t know if Google will install that rumored 64-bit version of Android 13. Among the benefits of stopping supporting 32-bit applications are that it would reduce the code base necessary for the optimized Android of this Pixel tablet and also uses such as memory.

Google’s Pixel Tablet is priced at $499,

It must be said that at that price too includes docking station which obviously gives it greater versatility of use. In short: it is important that Google also bets on the tablet segment with its own model that we can consider to be mid-range and that more than sales it should look for a new way for its partners to compete against Apple and its iPads in better conditions.
