Google would have postponed the release for a month, see you on October 4

We will finally have to wait a little longer before getting our hands on Android 14. According to journalist Mishaal Rahman, Google has postponed the launch of its operating system by a month, more precisely to October 4. Coincidentally (or not), this is also the release date of the Pixel 8. Problem, the firm would not have warned the partner manufacturers of this postponement.

According to several sources, we should have expected a launch of Android 14 for this September 5. However, this is obviously not the case and since yesterday, doubt hangs over the actual release date of the operating system. According to Mishaal Rahman, a journalist specializing in Android, there is a very simple reason for this: Google has decided to postpone the deployment of the latest version of its operating system. “J‘now learn that Android 14 source code release has been delayed to next month’he wrote on Twitter (X).

If we only hear this news now, it’s because “This decision was taken very late”, continues Mishaal Rahman. The latter is still advancing to give a new release date for Android 14: the October 4, 2023, i.e. the date of publication of the safety notes with the partner manufacturers. If this date means something to you, it is quite normal. Indeed, it is indeed the chosen by Google to present its Pixel 8.

Google is reportedly planning to launch Android 14 alongside the Pixel 8

Chance of the calendar or not, it would therefore be the first time in the history of Android that the launch of a new version coincides with that of a Pixel smartphone. However, as Mishaal Rahman points out, this was not Google’s original intention. If we do not know the reason behind this decision to postpone the release of Android 14, it is a safe bet that it is not a question of highlighting its own smartphones during the presentation.

Still, this postponement does not help the partner manufacturers. Indeed, because of the late nature of this decision, the latter would not have been informed until the last moment. However, some of them had already planned a very limited schedule, including OnePlus, which was counting on the deployment of a stable version by the end of the month. Xiaomi, too, already offers a stable version of the OS on its Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro.
