Many times we are not aware of the full potential that Alexa has. For that reason, today we are going to show you how you can configure your own morning newsso that you can listen to the news from the media that you yourself have selected.
How to set up your own news channel with Alexa
If you like to take advantage of time and you don’t like to waste a single minute of your day, Alexa is a good company that can save you a lot of time. By correctly configuring the wizard, you can listen to the news that interest you with a single voice command. Thus, you will save yourself having to scroll with your mobile and you will be able to take advantage of a little time while you have breakfast, take a shower or get dressed.
To start configuring Alexa, you must go to the app for mobile terminals. Then, you have to enter the section Setting and, immediately afterwards, News.
Within this block there two sections:
- my news channel: this is a block in which different media will appear. Depending on the country in which you are, one or the other will come out. In Spain, Antena 3, Cadena Ser, El Economista, laSexta, Onda Cero, RNE, RTVE and Telemadrid are available in this section.
- news summary: This is the most interesting point. It allows us to configure any source to receive short news. It works with Alexa Skills, and you can add as many as you’re interested in. Unlike the previous point, in Summary of news there are many more media, including sports media and regional newspapers.
To make your newscast, add in Summary as many media as you like. The order you set will be the one that Alexa will then choose to play the content. Each Skill is totally different, and we can already tell you that the Spanish media have not adapted as well to this system as the Americans. Some Skills are very simple and work very well, and others are dumped from other sources. As a general rule, we recommend that you choose custom sources for Alexa or stick with those that come from the radio. Those that come from television do not offer such a good experience.
Once you have added all the sources, make sure to activate them one by one if you have not done so before. With that done, you can go back and see the full list of media you’ve selected. You already have everything ready to start it.
Activate the morning news
Once you have it, say the following: «Alexa, play my summary».
As you say the wake phrase, Alexa will search the internet for the latest updates from your news feeds and start play the news summary point by point with the same order that you have established.
Your news summary goes updating as the hours of the day go by, so you can repeat the wake phrase at any time to stay up to date. The news summary is available from any Amazon Echo, the app itself, or even the Amazon Echo Buds.
