how to get Link’s legendary gear?

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is an incredibly large game. Perhaps you are still looking for some well-hidden objects that will make your heart of a fan of the license vibrate? Phonandroid invites you to reveal how to unlock the most legendary elements of Link’s equipment!

Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

You have spent dozens of hours surveying the lands of Hyrule from Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, but also its magnificent skies and its frightening undergrounds, and you would like to relive the adventure Ocarina of Time or Twilight Princess style? Admit it, although the outfits and weapons Link can find are stylish, nothing beats his good old green tunic, nor his legendary sword and his Hylian shield. The same goes for the mounts: many horses are at your disposal, but none has the presence of the famous Épona, the mare that accompanies the hero in his adventures since the Nintendo 64. At Phonandroid, we offer to tell you how to replenish Link’s legendary equipment in this new part

1/ Where and how to obtain Epona, the mythical steed?

Bad news: Epona is not found in the wild in Tears of the Kingdom. It is also not offered as a reward at the end of a quest in the game. You will either have to obtain it by using one of the amiibo figurines that allow you to unlock it (adult Link from the Super Smash Bros series, Link from Ocarina of Time or Twilight Princessa), or if you have a Breath of the Wild save on your Nintendo Switch where it was saved at a relay. Indeed, Tears of the Kingdom will check the presence of a backup of the previous opus at launch, and you can import all the horses that you had left at the relay in your game on this episode! In the meantime, if you don’t have an amiibo or a Breath of the Wild save, it’s not possible to recover Epona…

2/ Where and how to get the hero’s green outfit?

Depending on which episode you’re most attached to, Link’s mythical green tunic will differ somewhat between the six available to you in Tears of the Kingdom. However, if you want to roleplay her and have your gear consistent with using Epona, the Hylian Shield, and the Sword of Legend, you’ll need to seek to unlock the Ocarina of Time outfit or Dusk (Twilight Princess). To do this, you will need to unlock three outfit elements each time: the breeches (a set comprising pants and boots), the tunic and the headdress (the famous green cap). If it’s possible to obtain them by using Link’s amiibo from the games concerned, it takes quite a while, and you won’t be able to unlock them quickly since amiibo can only be used once per day in-game.

On the other hand, unlike Breath of the Wild where only amiibo allowed you to obtain the mythical outfits of Link’s glorious past, it is possible to unlock them in Tears of the Kingdom without using these figurines! For that, you have to spend time in the depths of the abyss, where there are hundreds of mysterious statues and small blue flames, called spirits. If you talk to the statue in the watch fort tower and hand it 100 spirits, it will tell you the location of its “brothers” present in the huge underground map.

From the latter, again for a large sum (400 spirits per element)you will be able to acquire the coveted outfit elements.

3/ Where and how to obtain the Hylian shield?

Absolute symbol of the legendary hero, the shield of Hylia (or hylian shield) is the most famous of all the protectors wielded by Link to ward off enemy attacks in his adventures. In Tears of the Kingdom, he hides in the same area as Breath of the Wild, namely in the basements of Hyrule Castle, which isn’t surprising considering Link loses it during the game’s intro. Good news, this shield is very easy to obtain, and you won’t need to access the castle hovering above the crater gaping. All you have to do is reach the pier to the north, where a cave gave access to the interior of the castle as well as to a hidden sanctuary in Breath of the Wild.

If it is even easier to reach this place from the castle once you have entered it, by letting you fly over the place until you locate the cave in question, you can also do it from the opposite bank, provided you still have enough stamina to cross. If you really want to get there by air, thus rallying this impressive building which floats in the sky, you will have to go to the tower of the watchtower and, once propelled into the air, float towards the castle (this which is almost impossible without Babil’s Burst power, combined with two full circles of endurance and/or an enduro remedy).

Once in said cave, progress until you reach the underground pier: you need to reach the high area in front of Link on our screenshot, where there are four torches and a brazier in the middle. Rather than taking the stairs and the catwalk on your left, we advise you to go down and climb the rock wall to avoid an unpleasant encounter, especially if you are low on equipment.

Then light the brazier with a fire arrow (use a Fire Fruit on your bow with the Amalgam) and you’ll spawn a chest in the ground, which contains the precious Legendary Shield.

4/ Where and how to get the Master Sword, the legendary sword?

Unlike Breath of the Wild, the stakes regarding the legendary sword are immediately presented to you upon Tears of the Kingdom’s introduction, as it is broken and Link loses use of it. We therefore inevitably want to recover it. Luckily, it’s possible to get it pretty early on, and you’ll “only” need to increase your stamina to grab it. Where it took 13 hearts in Breath of the Wild to tear it from its Korogu Forest stelehere you will need two full stamina circles to pull it without exhausting Link. However, it takes much less time to get your stamina to this level than to reach 13 hearts: completing four shrines allows you to choose between a heart and a shard of stamina, and it only takes 5 shards to complete a circle. Basically, completing 20 shrines and focusing exclusively on endurance, as explained in our guide to getting started, will allow you to benefit from the required amount.

It is still necessary to locate the sword in question. This one is not in a mysterious forest, but… on the back of the great white dragon that you will see as soon as you arrive in the sky island of the prelude. Obviously, it is not from the start of the game that you will be able to reach it, and in any case, you will come across it several times during the adventure, both in the skies and in the depths. Pay attention to the dragons you see flying around you, and take advantage of the towers you have unlocked to rise high enough and float towards the white dragon. Since you’ll have two filled stamina circles, it should make it easier for you to reach it (and having Babil’s Flurry power is a nice bonus).

Here, you now have all the keys to gathering Link’s legendary equipment in its entirety ! Do not hesitate to let us know your advice if you have found other techniques to unlock these elements in Tears of the Kingdom.
