iFixit gives the Surface Pro 9 a score of 7 out of 10

iFixit, as is traditional in it, guts the devices, analyzes them and gives them a grade based on the facilities they put in to be repaired. This time it was the turn of the Surface Pro 9to which the repair company has awarded a note of 7 out of 10. It may not be the best grade, but it’s a heck of a lot better than what Microsoft laptops and 2-in-1s used to get in the past.

iFixit isn’t shy about putting every deserving device through the shredder, and Microsoft’s Surface division can attest to that. The Surface Pro 6 received a 1 out of 10 in 2017 and a year earlier the Surface Laptop got a 0 out of 10. Going through the iFixit shredder over and over again, which only looks at ease of repair, is something that ultimately it ends up damaging a brand, so the Redmond giant had to make favorable gestures towards the right to repair (some political pressure had its effect here, too) and began publishing material to help users repair some Surface equipment themselves.

In short, the 7 out of 10 obtained by the Surface Pro 9 can be interpreted, at least from certain perspectives, as something positive. Compared to previous generations, the screen can be removed easily, although even with those it is a process that becomes somewhat difficult. In the rear, the SSD is replaceable by simply opening a hatch that does not require toolsalthough the SSD itself is of a size that is not the most common on the market.

After exposing the entries of the Surface Pro 9, it was seen that the team uses a fan to keep temperatures at bay, which should help minimize the chances of the dreaded occurrence. thermal throttling. However, it seems that Microsoft has not taken advantage of all the available space to introduce a larger battery, although factors such as costs and/or price may have influenced this.

Despite the questions it raises the battery, at least it is easy to remove as it is fixed only with a few screws and not with glue. The processor is another component that can be easily accessed to renew the thermal paste. In the end, and despite some hurdles, iFixit has decided to give the Surface Pro 9 a 7 out of 10. In addition, the repair company has said that Microsoft will have parts available for users who want to do their own repairs.
