Lenovo will renew its ThinkPad X1 laptops with Intel Raptor Lake processors

Lenovo is already preparing the update of the laptops ThinkPad Carbon X1, ThinkPad X1 Yoga, and Thinkpad X1 Nano to Intel’s Raptor Lake generation of processors. On top of that, the Chinese-born giant has announced that it is reducing its carbon footprint by incorporating more recycled materials into the design of the aforementioned models and offering more energy-saving features, which are probably tied to Windows 11.

Furthering the use of recycled material, future generations of the ThinkPad Carbon X1 and Thinkpad X1 Nano feature a palm rest made of 90% recycled magnesium and the former has a bottom cover made of 55% recycled aluminium. An interesting detail is that Lenovo, according to its version, has developed human presence detection technology using artificial vision that is responsible for reducing energy consumption when the user moves away from the laptop.

Other energy-saving features are turning off the keyboard light or using Smart Charge to stop charging the laptop when the battery has reached 100%, which are not remotely innovative or novel at this point, but they are things that are there.

In regards to ThinkPad X1 Carbon With Raptor Lake, it is the eleventh generation of the laptop, which has established itself as a widely recognized product within the segment, even beyond the professional sector. For the 2023 model and its variants, a weight of 1.12 kg approximately, a thickness of 1,524 centimeters and three 14-inch screen models: one IPS that works at a native resolution of 1,920 × 1,200 pixels, another IPS at 2,240 × 1,400 pixels and a last OLED that will work at 2,880 × 1,800 pixels. At the memory level it will support up to 64GB of LPDDR5 and up to 2TB of data storage via SSD via NVMe interface. Its price will be $1,729.

The ThinkPad X1 Nano with Intel Raptor Lake will be the third generation of the laptop, which will feature a 13-inch screen and will run at a resolution of 2,160 × 1,350 pixels in all its variants, although at least one will support touch capabilities. It will weigh only about 970 grams and its thickness will be 1.47 centimeters, so it will not be much thinner than the Carbon. Other details to take into account are memory, which in the ThinkPad X1 Nano will be limited up to a maximum of 16GB of LPDDR5 and 1TB of storage via SSD, in addition to a 49.6Whr battery compared to the 57Whr implemented in the other two models. Its base price will be $1,649.

Lenovo will make available the following touch screen panels from 14 inches: IPS LCD of 1,920 × 1,200 pixels and OLED at 3,840 × 2,400 pixels. At the memory level, it will have the same options as the Carbon and will start at $1,859 when it is marketed in the United States (for Spain, taxes and other factors will have to be counted, so the number will be higher).

They will also have 5G sub-6 (CAT20), 4G LTE (CAT16) and 4G LTE (CAT4) connectivity via eSIM and Nano SIM, although the X1 Nano will not have WWAN.

Dolby Atmos support for sound, the Kensington lock, the fingerprint reader, the switch for the webcam and the use of Core i5 and Core i7 processors are other points to take into account in the three laptop models, which will be marketed as of April 2023 if the company meets its plans. It is very likely that Lenovo will present or at least show them at CES 2023 to be held early next year in the US city of Las Vegas.
