Microsoft revamps Teams to make it faster and smarter

Microsoft ha renovated almost completely its app and collaboration tool Teams, with the goal of making it faster, smarter, flexible and simpler. Teams is a collaboration tool that works with other Microsoft 365 and Office 365 apps as a meeting point for business meetings and conversations, teamwork, and document sharing.

According to the company, the Teams app currently has no less than 280 million unique users, and there are 1,900 applications that integrate directly with it. According to him President of collaborative apps and platforms at Microsoft, Jeff Teperthe Teams app has been completely changed, and now it is designed not only to be twice as fast as before, but also to consume half the resources of the previous one, criticized for consuming them excessively.

To do this, the company has changed the architecture of the platform, putting aside the combination of HTML and custom CSS, which it used together with AngularJS. Instead, the app has now been built using multiple Fluent UI layers in React as a base, and passing the data processing to a client data layer. Also, Microsoft has changed the technology on the host side, moving from Electron to WebView2.

With this, those in Redmond have managed to halve the time it takes to launch the app and join a meeting. Memory consumption has also been cut in half, according to the results of several tests carried out by an independent consultancy, GigaOm.

Microsoft has also simplified the management of notifications, the search for information and the management of messages in Teams, reducing the clicks necessary to access information. It has also modified the notification, synchronization and authentication systems of the platform.

Thanks to this, those who want to use Teams with several accounts and profiles will be able to have them all connected at the same time and receive their notifications, regardless of which one they are using. It will not be necessary for them to log out of the account they are using at any given time in order to connect another one they need.

In addition to this, the new Teams app will include smart summaries and Copilot for Microsoft Teams. Of course, its final version is not yet available. Business customers using Windows can now access its public trial version, yes, although the company has indicated that its final version will arrive later, before the end of this year.
