News VOD 17/23: ‘Citadel’, a high-flying rehash with an impossible license

VOD news brings you the best new releases of the week on Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, HBO Max, Netflix… And, keep an eye on the data, because very interesting launches are coming to most platforms, starting with Citadelyes, but following by many others.

Amazon Prime Video, one more week, is the featured platform, this time not for an exclusive movie, but for an original series, Citadelin the end the only content of its own that it premieres… but you know what they say: little and good is better than a lot and bad…

The question is:Citadel is it good? Let me tell you, although I will be brief: Citadel is, after The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, the most expensive series in history so far. It’s also from Amazon, yes. In this case, it is a high-flying action series of which a couple of chapters have just been published and… Let’s say that, like the series based on Tolkien’s work, it stands out more for its level of production than otherwise.

For more data, Citadel is the new series from the writers of Alias and Life on Marsalthough what it is being recognized for is being directed by the Russo brothers (Avengers: Infinity War, Endgame, Tyler Rake), as well as for being carried out by Richard Madden (Game of Thrones, Eternals), with Indian actress Priyanka Chopra (Matrix Resurrections) in the co-starring role. Other familiar faces are out there, as well as places that catch us close (Valencia en Fallas is one of the first scenarios).

But what’s it about? Citadel? And is it worth it? This already… In short, Citadel It is a total rehash of the great super-spy productions, read James Bond as an absolute reference, although it would also be worth Mission Impossible, the Jason Bourne saga, etc. But absolute rehash. Zero originality. Something that the series compensates with, it is worth repeating, a first-class production level and, at least for now, an agile pace without filler. So assess whether you are interested in giving it a try, or not (if not, on Prime Video you have all the franchises it drinks from).

We continue with the offer of HBO Max, which this week reappears from its hole to release several things that are less striking, from the novelty that we highlight to the new Spanish comedy chickens in head or the second season of one of last year’s surprises for lovers of the most mysterious mysteries, desde.

Love & Death is a miniseries by one of the gurus of American television, David E. Kelley (ally mcbeal, Big Little Lies, the lincoln lawyer), a true crime based on true events and starring Elizabeth Olsen (Wanda, the Scarlet Witch) that is generating conflicting opinions, but just for the story it recreates it is worth giving it a chance, not in vain are we talking about a betrayal resolved with an axe…

Let’s go with Disney +, where a few things are released, too, although it is difficult to highlight any in particular because none is being fully received by critics and the public, although to highlight something, it would be…

Peter Pan & Wendy It is, indeed, what you expected: a new adaptation of the classic with an overdose of current hypocrisy. Thus, a live action film written and directed by David Lowery (peter and the dragon, the green knight) and starring Jude Law (fantastic animals, Sherlock Holmes) in the role of Captain Hook, with an Indian Peter Pan, a Black Bell and identity references, is not released in theaters because it is one thing for Disney to be hypocritical, but quite another for it to be stupid. Ergo, he’s a coward. That being said, if you’re interested in seeing it…
